A commercial comes on saying "BUY TRIPLE(INSERT 24TH LETTER OF ALPHABET) DOMAINS" or something very similar.

Explain THAT one to your kids.

No warning, nothing, just right in everyones face watching the television. No wonder we don't turn that thing on very often.

I hate our TV commercials these days. You cannot turn on the tube without seeing immoral commercials. It isn't the show content so much anymore. We see viagra and $ex enhancements. I saw a new one this week where a guy is in a pool looking down his pants making somekind of comment about shrinking? I don't even know what the commercial was about.

I have a DVR, I guess I should start utilizing it.

Don't watch live tv, except for sports, so I don't see much of this. Unfortunately even with the sports you see too much.

As a culture, we're so rapidly declining it is stunning to see the cravenness.

What is even worse I'll bet there are several hipster churches these days that will play clips from these kind of commercials to prop up their sermons. You know for a laugh or kick to keep um coming next week.

I don't see much of it either, the thing that gets me is it's just right there, no warning. I'd bet those who watch TV "all day" barely notice, or care.

I don't know the intent of the commerical but there is a big push to buy up all the xxx domains by private people and companies so that the xxx industry cannot have them. I was reading there are several colleges doing it to keep the domains out of the hands of the smut industry. The idea is to buy them and never use them and once they are bought up there are no more.

There is no limit to domain names. Any random combination of keystrokes can be a domain name.

There is no such thing as "buying up all the domain names" or "there are no more domain names".

Yep. As many wicked thoughts as man can contrive, there will be those sites made to match them. How many sites does it take anyhow? I'm certain the p@rn industry has bought and named plenty of sites.

Thank you for the correction as it is IP addy we are running out of because of the 32 bit system so they are looking at a 128 bit system. As to domain names colleges and universities along with companies with well-known trademarks have been buying up related domains with the .xxx extension to protect their image. It’s to avoid the problem that haunted the White House in the early days of the Internet when WhiteHouse.com was a porn site (the real website for the president is WhiteHouse.gov.)

I've noticed a number of adverts that, while not so shocking as the example in the OP, still could have a bad effect on children. One features two children beside a Christmas tree. In front of them are two chocolate reindeer, one made by a chocolate company, the other a much cheaper "supermarket own-brand". Child 1 points to the first reindeer, and says, "Grandma, we'd like one of these!" Child 2 points to the second reindeer, and says, "Grandma, we'd like one of these!" Then both children show some socks, and with disgusted looks on their faces, say: "But, Grandma, we DON'T want THESE!"

Then there was the advert with a "sweet" little girl singing these words:
Who puts an X-box under the tree
Who buys a Fidget just for me
and who put a laptop on Grandpa's knee?
    My mother!

    Who got dad a D&G
and who got Sal some jewellery?
    My lovely lovely mother!

The web-hosting service I use has been sending a lot of ad e-mails lately offering that domain. I was a bit surprised, and yet I did get the sense that they were offering it for other uses by regular people, besides what we would think it would be used for.
So maybe what freeatlast is saying is true.

Still, it's also true that it does look bad, and most people aren't going to think to use that either for x rated stuff, or for this push to keep it from them.

I can't believe all the sex commercials on TV, as well as all the profanity--especially using God and Jesus Christ as profanity. They're trying too hard to make TV as real as possible since most people seem to use profanity. I wish we could go back to the days of black and white TV when no one used profanity on TV, no sex scenes, no sex commercials, and TV was fit for Christians and children. I don't want black and white TV; I just want TV to be fit to watch again. There is so little new (mostly reruns) or fit to watch that I spend a lot of time designing houses and drawing them just for something to do. I'm no good at it, but I can kill hours that way instead of being offended by the filth on TV.

TV didn't hold any interest for us anymore so we got rid of ours, although we are considering buying a DVD player so my father inlaw will have something to watch when he comes to visit.

One day my wife and I came to the realization that the only time that we had the TV on was for background noise and that neither of us was actually watching it anyway.

We have been switching to recorded books. Books that seem to have to many words are OK in traffic jams.
