And we know that Christian men watch evening television because??? Yet the outry against sex on TV is directed primarily at the evening content. The outcry towards content of daytime TV is almost nonexistent, and when you consider that daytime soaps have been on for 30+ years (a,d, considering that nearly every soap episode contains sexual content), the only conclusion that one can reach is that the issue of daytime TV is being purposefully avoided.

Incorrect thinking John. Ask any TV producer or exec, or any advertiser. The reason why evening TV is under attack is because that is the highest level of viewing. They don't call it "prime time" for nothing. Very few people watch day time TV. It has nothing to do with being "purposefully avoided." It has to do with impact. There is a reason why they don't run the evening shows during the day time. No one would watch them.

You make a good point about viewership on evening TV being higher. Don't get me wrong, I think the concern over what's on TV is worthy of discussion. However, the fact that blatant sex on daytime TV was present for 30+ years with narry a word certainly makes the premise a bit suspect, don't ya think? It's that whole log-speck thing.

I don't agree with your premise. Sex on daytime TV has been addressed for years, especially in church. But it wasn't was well knonw because 1) the viewership was much lower, 2) the media outlets were much different, and 3) it was much more tame than now.

The primary concern about TV, even now, is its affect on children. That is why 10:00pm is the dividing line of content. Most kids are assumed to go to bed around then.

But, to the point, I don't buy your premise.

To pin-point the real enemy, read Ephesians 6:12! The rest of the chapter tells us the only way we can hope to prevail against that enemy until Jesus returns to destroy the works of the devil.

    I don't buy Johnv's premise, either. That's why I said, "Oh, please."

I don't know any Christian woman who sits around watching soaps. We're all too busy working, taking care of our families, running kids to and fro, shopping, doing Bible studies, planning church activities, taking care of aging parents, going to doctor appointments, running errands, getting groceries in, etc. Not a Christian woman I know sits around and watches soaps, or stereotypically eats chocolates, reads Movie Star mags, wearing fuzzy slippers and lounging around in a nightgown all day, etc. Maybe it's different in California.

It must be different there. I do know women who watch soaps. They record them while they are out working, running the kids, etc. etc. And I know more teenage girls who do the same. I do think its a problem. Now where are them bon-bons...

It's pertinent to the OP topic. The topic about the number of sexual depictions on TV now as compared to the past. Not about rating, or severity. The fact remains that, in the past, the prime offender of this statistic has been soaps. Soaps are geared towards a stay at home female audience.

So it's valid to ask where the furor was back then, when sex on TV was a primarily female form of entertainment.

Since you point out that you don't know Christian women who watch soaps, then it stands to reason that Christian women have simply chosen to flip the channel or turn the TV off. But, when it comes to nighttime TV, and some say "just change the channel or turn the TV off", those people get called liberals and loons. Does one not see the hypocrisy here?

I, likewise, don't know a single Christian man that watches trash on tv, or a single family that allows their kids to watch trash on tv. So why does the same resolution (turning the channel or turning off the tv) not apply?

I've never seen a "naked lady" on TV, save an episode of a surgery show once. Scantily clad, yes, but naked? No.

BTW, I personally think the phrase "naked ladies" is a bit derogatory, but that's just my $.02. (then again, barenakedladies is a pretty good band  ).

But the whole topic is about the number of sexual depictions on TV, not about whether they "naked" or not.

    John, I was being ironic.

"I personally think the phrase "naked ladies" is a bit derogatory"-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is just a noun modified by an adjective. Not sure why it would be derogitory.
