The Paul campaign has received about $124,000 so far today. If it receives an average of $80,000 per day for the remainder of this year then it will meet its goal of raising $12,000,000 this quarter.

Ron Paul Gets Relevant in a Hurry

Ron Paul gets relevant in a hurry
    By: Jonathan Martin

In the space of 24 hours, Ron Paul achieved the extraordinary feat of raising over $4 million online in 35,000 separate contributions.

    And he is still going.

As of Tuesday morning, the Republican congressman from Texas had already tallied $7.25 million for the quarter.

At that pace, he’ll likely outraise or at least be at parity for the time period with most of the GOP field (not including Mitt Romney’s self-funding).

In an interview, Paul’s campaign manager said the campaign would likely use its burgeoning war chest to broaden its ad campaign.

“It’s reasonable to assume we’ll increase our presence on TV,” Lew Moore said.

Paul Returns Donations From Stolen Cards

Here's a link to a story about it:

    www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/11/08/politics/main3472781.shtml

I moved to the credit card accounting department of the company that I work for about five months ago. It is amazing to me the shenigans that some people are pulling in committing credit card fraud. If these people would put as much effort into legal activity they could earn a bunch of money legitimately.

Kudos to the Ron Paul campaign for doing the right thing so quickly.

Tax Reform Promises Treats, Delivers Tricks

Tax Reform Promises Treats, Delivers Tricks
    by Congressman Ron Paul(R-TX)

Representative Charles Rangel’s recently announced plan to address the impending Alternative Minimum Tax’s application to middle-class Americans demonstrates limited economic understanding.

The Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) began in the late 1960's because 155 wealthy taxpayers had become savvy enough with loopholes that they managed to avoid income taxes altogether. Very few Americans avoided taxes completely this way, nonetheless, policy was enacted that now threatens 25 million Americans.

Rangel's plan boasts loudly about repealing the AMT, but under the Democrats’ pay-as-you-go rules, actual tax cuts are not allowed. Congress must replace any tax revenue reduction with an increase somewhere else, and of course, there are no rules preventing tax hikes. Thus, a new 4% surtax on incomes over $150,000 for singles and $200,000 for couples is proposed to "pay for" the estimated lost revenue. This simultaneously raises $36 billion MORE than simply leaving the AMT alone, and creates a huge new marriage penalty tax. It won't be long before $150,000 is an average income, and middle class taxpayers will again face the situation we see coming today from inflation and the AMT. Overall, the Rangel tax plan is estimated to increase taxes by $3.5 trillion over the next 10 years.

With the leadership in Congress calling for this massive tax hike, spending levels promising to absorb all that and then some (thanks to our ambitiously misguided foreign policy), as well as the Federal Reserve's again cheapening the dollar, American taxpayers are wondering where their purchasing power went. We are working harder than ever before, as our standard of living falls.

The founding fathers never saw taxation as a method to direct social behavior or enforce equality. Equality to them was equality under the law, not equality of outcome, or income. It was not the founding fathers' job to manage the economy, or make American businesses competitive. That was up to the free market and American businesses. The founders sought to provide only protection of property and civil liberties such that job creation could happen naturally and peacefully in a stable, prosperous environment. They never sought to take from the rich to give to the poor, or rob Peter to pay Paul. But today, the top 5% of earners in this country pay over half of all income taxes collected, but only bring in a third of the income. One third of Americans pay nothing or receive subsidies from government.

Tax policy should not be based on the premise that government owns you and allows you to keep some arbitrary amount of your labor. Thus, the AMT should be repealed. The estate tax should be repealed. Capital gains taxes should be repealed. The income tax should be repealed. We don’t need to overhaul or adjust tax policy, we need to scrap the whole thing and start over.

But this message is not getting through to the leadership of Congress. Congress has ensnared itself in rules so that the only changes in tax policy allowed are increases, while the administration is obsessed with spending, especially spending us into oblivion by spreading this dead-end war when we should be coming home.

If Washington can only do wrong, then let’s hope for gridlock, until a more sensible Congress is in office. Sometimes a do-nothing Congress is a lot better than the alternative.

How high is he in any of the polls? I just can't believe he really has any serious chance.

This is an urgent and time sensitive appeal. Please read and reply immediately.

Most of you are not yet aware of this, but the Montana Republican Party did a rule change this past August.
Because of this rule change, the decision on who will be the Republican Party nominee for President will now be decided in a closed Montana Republican Party Presidential Caucus on February 5th.
In a nutshell, what this means is that unless you are a Republican party insider, you will not have a vote in deciding who the Republican nominee from Montana will be.
Unlike in past presidential elections, this year approximately 3000 select Republicans from around the state will be the only ones with the opportunity to vote for their favorite presidential candidate in a closed, party-run caucus. The winner of the caucus will be guaranteed the support of all of Montana's 25 delegates to the Republican National Convention next September in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In years past, Montana's delegates to the National Convention could vote for whomever they individually chose and were not bound to support the candidate who won the Montana Presidential Primary. This new format of Presidential Caucus is a very important change to how Montana Republicans choose their presidential candidate.
Only Republican Legislatures and other Republican elected officials will be given the opportunity to cast a vote. One of the largest groups of people who will be eligible to vote in this Presidential Caucus are what is called precinct committeeman and committeewomen. Montana has 56 counties, each county divided into multiple precincts. Each precinct consists of one precinct committeeman and one precinct committeewoman. Each committeeman and woman will have the honor of voting for the candidate that best represents his or her precinct. This is where you can play a vital role.
If you'd like to be able to vote in this important caucus, there are still open precinct positions available, but you must act now. Some counties are filling these open precinct positions as quickly as they can.
If you care about the future of this Republic, about your freedoms and liberties, the time to get involved is today.
Here is how you can help. The only qualification to becoming a precinct committeeman or committeewoman is that you are registered to vote in the precinct in which you live.
If you are interested in being appointed to your precinct and voting in the Caucus, please do the following immediately.
    1) Contact your county election department to a) verify you are registered to vote at your current address, b) have them tell you what precinct you reside in
    2) Immediately email [email protected]. and specifically include a) your name and all of your contact information b) your county and c) your precinct number.
All of this information is vital to send.
I will confirm if the precinct you live in is vacant, and will contact you give you further details about how to begin the simple process of being appointed as an official committee member.
The other presidential campaigns are actively recruiting their supporters to fill precincts around the state, so do not delay!

Thank you for your support of Ron Paul. I look forward to working closely with you in the coming months to ensure that Ron Paul is the next President of the United States.
    Sincerely,
    David Hart
    Montana State Coordinator
Ron Paul 2008 Presidential Campaign Committee

Ron Paul's campaign has only a few bright spots:

    1) Huge Rallies (larger than any other candidate's)

    2) Hundreds of MeetUp Groups and lots of supporters creating their own yard signs, etc.

    3) Lots of cash

    4) More straw poll victories than any other candidate

Ron Paul breaks into the light as freedom warrior

DES MOINES -- It used to be easy to portray Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul as a quixotic champion of a hopeless cause.

But Don Quixote never raised $4.2 million in a single day.

The parody of someone tilting at windmills hardly fits now that Paul is raising serious amounts of campaign cash. He's using it to fortify grassroots efforts in the important early caucus state of Iowa and to buy TV ads in New Hampshire and other key battleground states.

The Green Tree native who garnered just 432,000 votes in 1988, when he ran for president as a Libertarian, has 100,000 volunteers today.

The Ron Paul campaign has now received over $8,000,000 in donations - 19 days ahead of the goal of receiving this amount by November 30 on the way to the goal of $12,000,000 for the fourth quarter.

Very well said. Paul could not be more correct when he says that taxes were never meant for equality or behavior modification. Taxation was to raise money for essential government functions. This area is probably Paul's most consistently conservative. Let's hear more. We need to hear more.

Ron Paul Draws Crowd of 5,000 in Philly

Ron Paul Finds Fans in Cradle of Liberty

    November 12, 2007 01:15 PM ET

Ron Paul is on a roll. After a record-breaking online fundraising week, the libertarian Republican candidate for the presidency entertained a crowd of 5,000 in the Old City section of Philadelphia on Saturday.

"It certainly looks bigger than a few spammers," the once long-shot candidate told supporters. His campaign has been wildly popular online, but with the good turnout in Philly, it looks as though it's gaining traction outside cyberspace as well.

Surrounded by the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and the National Constitution Center, Paul said he could "feel the energy of the Founders" as he gave a speech touching on topics as diverse as how he would use the executive order to the legalization of marijuana. Paul, known as "Dr. No" in Washington for his unwillingness to vote for anything not expressly delegated to Congress in the Constitution, often cites the Founding Fathers.

Some of his supporters mimicked his rhetoric by carrying "Don't Tread on Me" and "Live Free or Die" flags and wearing tricorn hats. U.S. News's Liz Halloran sat down with the candidate last week to discuss his atypical campaign, foreign policy, and whether Paul, who ran for president on the Libertarian ticket in 1988, feels like a true Republican.

Is Paul for the legalization of marijuana or the decriminilization of it?

The legalization argument tends to be promoted by those who would seek what they see as a enormous tax revenue boon. Since I am opposed to tax increases as a means of revenue windfalls for government, I am opposed to legalization. I am more inclined to hear decriminilization arguments which tend to be less nanny-state, tax-dollar oriented, and more principle-focused.

Knowing your liberterian stance, I am not saying you favor legalization for this reason, Ken.
