I like spiritual-theological names for churches, but Baptists relatively seldom use them. The Lutherans are much better at it, in my observation -- off the top of my head I think of Abiding Presence Lutheran Church, Holy Comforter LC, Gloria Dei LC, Christ the Servant LC. Of course they have plenty of Trinity, Emmanuel, and the like. However, here in DC, because of a merger there is a First Trinity Lutheran Church ... as if there were or could be a Second Trinity?!

But speaking of mergers, in Baltimore the old Second Baptist Church and Fourth Baptist Church merged. No, they did not average it out to Third Baptist ... that was, presumably, taken. They became Second and Fourth Baptist Church! What a missed opportunity to take on a whole new name and make a fresh start.
