Really, we have enough trouble reconciling the available texts; now we're supposed to judge the reliability of translations against hymns?

See what I mean Steven M, when you hurt their feelings, they completely miss your point.

Whose feelings are hurt? KJV-onlyism makes me laugh.

Perhaps you are the one who missed the point. The point is that songs are not sufficient revelation by which to judge the accuracy of a version. The question is not "What did some songwriter say?" The question is "What did the apostle say under the inspiration of God?"

Therefore, this whole line of reasoning (basing a textual choice on a popular song) is improper. This discussion should have never come up. We should all know better than to judge Scripture by songs. We should be judging songs by Scripture.

Further, NOTE TO KJVOS, the blood of Christ was not and is not a magical potion.

    Your heart isn't really black.

God doesn't actually scrub your heart.

I would have thought that adults knew better.

    Note to everyone. (Myself included)
We probably should save our sarcasm for posts which don't discuss the precious blood of Jesus. (Gunther, I'm not accusing you of any disrespect, I just got a bit convicted by the way the thread was turning.)
