    What are your thoughts? Are great leaders born or made?

    OK, I will jump in. First off you said "Great Leaders." I don't think they are born or made but created - explanation follows.

    First off Leaders can be made; the military is proof of that. Just about anyone, certainly anyone who applies themselves and tries can learn basic leadership principles that will make them successful.

    Second Leaders are also born in that some men and women with no real training in leadership end up as great leaders. But that leads us to:

    Third, great leaders are not great only for their personal leadership skills, but for demonstrating those skills during a specific extraordinary event. It takes more than natural ability or training to create a great leader, they have to be forged in the fire of adversity and trial.
