Most soldiers who fought for Germany and Japan were as "righteous" as American GIs. Those who fought against us in Iraq were more righteous.

Most of the German soldiers were baptized Lutherans who thought the war was necessary to defend their homeland.

Their homeland including Poland, France. Italy, Norway, Sweden, Russia..... I'm sure six miliion Jews would question your use of the word righteous.

"In war, there are no evil soldiers; only evil leaders" - I just made that up. But it's true. I do not hate the men I fight against. I do have anger issues when I see my joes blown up, I'll admit. But these men I am fighting think that they are doing a good thing.

The difference between these men and the Japanese or Germans is that these men don't care who they hurt. The IEDs laid out here in my area are mostly victim operated. That means that they can blow up on military or civilian targets.

I can salute the brave German and Japanese soldiers who in their mind were fighting for their country. I can not salute men who will walk into a mosque and blow up civilians in order to place fear in the survivors, and thus control them.

Now, to bring the topic back to the OP; thank you for all you who have served before me, and paved the way. We fight in the memory of you and of the fallen. I am reminded of this every time I enter a DFAC and see the place set for the MIA/POW.

On a lighter note, I make sure to remind my soldiers every time I smoke them; once we have done all our pushups/side straddle hops/etc, I always say, "And one more, for all the dead sappers."

By the way, they didn't do anything to the US and Saddam had nothing to do with 911. We attacked them. They were defending their homeland from the Evil Empire.

I don't believe that you understand what righteous is billwald.

Romans 3:10. As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

Righteousness must be imputed by Jesus Christ. It is unlikely that He imputes righteousness to unbelieving Muslims!

And on that fine note, I am closing this thread. Thank you for starting this thread and to all who have served and are serving, "thank you."
