I will use the 1996 NLT and pair it with the KJV. So this time N will stand for the NLT;not the NIV.

    Leviticus:

    4:27
K --while he doeth somewhat against any of the commandments of the Lord
N -- do something forbidden by the Lord

    14:44
    K -- fretting leprosy
    N -- infectious mildew

    18:6
    K -- uncover their nakedness
    N -- sexual intercourse

    18:23
    K -- it is confusion
    N -- this is a trrrible perversion

    19:20
K -- she shall be scourged
N -- compensation must be paid

    19:31
K -- Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards
N -- Do not rely on mediums and psychics

    23:35
    K -- servile work
    N -- regular work

    24:12
    K -- put in ward
N --put the man in custody

    ___________________________________________________________
Okay,I will go back to the NIV for snips in Numbers.

    5:14
K -- and be jealous of his wife, and she be defiled
N -- and he suspects his wife and she is impure

    5:21
K -- thy thigh to rot
N -- and he suspects his wife and she is impure

    6:10
    K -- two turtles
    N -- two doves

    11:15
    K -- my wretchedness
    N -- my own ruin

    12:8
    K -- even apparently
    N -- clearly

    14:33
K -- your children shall wander in the wilderness
N -- your children will be shepherds here

    15:30
K -- the soul that doeth ought presumptuously
N -- anyone who sins defiantly

    35:20
K -- But if he thrust him of hatred
N -- If anyone with malice a forethought pushes another

    Leviticus 4:27
K --while he doeth somewhat against any of the commandments of the Lord
N -- do something forbidden by the Lord

The rendering in the KJV here is mysterious. "While he doeth somewhat against the commandments of the Lord." "Doeth somewhat against" is a terrible reading. It waters down any transgression of the the Lord. It makes it sound like a trifling matter.

    19:20
K -- she shall be scourged
N -- compensation must be paid

Here is another instance where the KJV rendering is wrong. Scourging means flogging --I would think that 400+ years ago it also meant the same thing. But compensation is the meaning --not a whipping with a lash.
