The list about what is right with the present state of politics in this country would be shorter than what is wrong:

But, abortion, adultery, divorce, child abuse, drug abuse, and plain disobedience against God and His Word . . . should do for a start.

    FP,

Your original contention was that people typically join the Party of their parents. I would agree that their beliefs are affected by that of their parents, whether in rebellion against those beliefs or embracing of the same, but that doesn't have bearing on their party affiliation.

My family, for the most part, is pretty conservative, especially on social issues. Same with church people. However, until a few years ago, you would have found the bulk of them as supporters of the Democrat Party. My dad was middle of the road philosophically, but he was a Democrat voter. My mother was socially conservative and fiscally moderate, but she voted Democrat and Independent most of the time.

I would still say that young people are just as likely to reject the party of their parents as they are to accept it.

Now, you may be more correct as time goes by. I think most people are beginning to see just what the parties do stand for, rather than what they would have us believe they stand for.

I am a Republican (most of the time:smilewinkgrin:).
My mother was an Independent, sometime Democrat.
Her mother(my grandmother) was a Democrat.
    Her father(my great-grandfather) was a Democrat turned-Republican.

My mother, father, and grandmother are all Republicans now.

    Daisy, you're welcome.

This reminds me of the old joke about the Party Puppies.

There was a young fellow selling newborn puppies. He had a sign up that said Democrat puppies. A young Democrat was walking by, saw the sign and the puppies and thought the idea was funny. He back the next day, determined to buy one of the Democrat puppies, but, to his surprise, the sign had been changed. It now read, Republican puppies. The Democrat asked the young fellow selling the puppies why he had changed the sign. The fellow told him the puppies were no longer Democrats. The man asked what happened. The young fellow then told him, "Well, yesterday their eyes were closed, but when I got here this morning, all of their eyes were opened."

Again, just to be clear I did not say EVERYONE, many do, however, at least initially. Why? Because as I said, and you agreed with, the influence of their parents. Think about it, if people tend to embrace the same political beliefs they have been taught, they are more likely than not to join the same party, again this is not true for all cases.

(outrage about "liberal indoctrination and propaganda")

    Barbarian observes:
Professonal jealousy. Some people just can't stand the idea that other people might disagree with them, and teach values to their kids.

(person who thought he knew what the emotions and concerns of people who wrote the book were, responds)

It's only dishonest if you've let us know that we've inferred them incorrectly and we then persist. Otherwise, it is merely mistaken (and it is uncharitable for you to deem it dishonest).

Of course, if you refuse to clue us in on what your actual emotions are, then it is ridiculous to call our best guess dishonest.

I believe you are mistaken that 'it' admits to pride in hatred of the President.

Overblown much? Do you think children don't argue their parents' politics on the playground? Wouldn't it be better if they had some understanding of what the issues are?

I find it disturbing that that you would equate Democratic principles with hating and killing Jews.

Somehow, I'm just not threatened by this book. I've taught my kid, prayed for her, made sure she had a good church, it's in the Lord's hands.

I do find it funny the dems chose a disease ridden rodent pest to represent them.

Children should stay children. Those who would read this type of book are much to young to be dealing with politics. We continue to steal away the innocents of our children more and more. the subject is much to heavy for children. Every time the left wants to justify robbing the innocents of our children they claim it is discussed on the playground or at school. Children on their own have no intrest in politics. This is a fallacy. And even if it were to happen it should be discouraged. Children do not have the maturity to deal with such weighty issues. This is very sad.

You have no need or business guessing my emotions.

"Why Mommy is a Democrat may look like a traditional book, but it definitely isn't just for children. with numerous subtle( and not so subtle) satiricle swipes at the Bush administration and Republican Party, Why Mommy will appeal to democrats of all ages.

As a running contrast to the positive scenes in the foreground of the detailed 2-page drawings are background scenes juxtaposing the heartlessness of non-Mommylike people and the woe of the poor. The elite characters are never named “Republican” but they’re identifiable. Items like the newspaper the headline of which reads: “Tax Refund,” carried by the cigar-smoking escort of a snooty woman totting a poodle, are dead giveaways. So is the representative multicultural-looking down-and-out young man who is barred from an expensive school, sleeps under a tree in the park, or looks in trash cans for dinner. Every Democrats’ heartstrings will vibrate with joy as Zilbert picks all the acupuncture points for our pain and pleasure—like the reference to the 2000 election.

Their own words show you are mistaken. Libs are teaching their children in this book that Republican values are "heartless" and care nothing for the poor. This is propoganda and indoctrination. To say that they are only teaching their children values is over simplification. This is specific hatred as defined by libs.

I realize this is hard, and while libs are not advocating murder they do impose inapropriate and overly mature issues at too early an age. It is very grevious, and abusive.

I'm sorry that upsets you, but we do need to guess your emotions to make sense of what you are trying to say - are you joking, are you confused, are you really angry, are you feigning anger, are your feelings hurt? It makes a difference in the sense of what you're saying and how we reply - whether you're happy about that or not.

Huh? I don't see pride in any "hatred of the President" - that hatred seems to be your own transference.

They don't mention "Republican" by name. Funny, coming from someone who states that in real life, the rich are wise and the poor unwilling to do what's necessary.

Explaining values commonly held by Democrats by contrasting them with unnamed non-Democrats is actually nonspecific and not hatred.

What libs have "defined" hatred as .... what are you claiming it has been defined as?

It's not "libs" anyway, it's Democrats and you did say it was "like" teaching murder.

This is so absurd, it's hard to believe you're serious, but since you seem devoid of playful humor* in your posts, I do believe you are. It is neither inappropriate nor overly mature.

Parents should decide what and when teach their children about their values.

*your 'dinosaur' comment was somewhat playful

My parents are conservative, and I am probably more conservative than they are, but we usually vote repulican any way, since they are not quite as socialist as the democrats are.

I do wish we could get a multi-party system viably operational, but that would take some revamping of election laws. It could be done and still keep the electoral college, but it would take the power out of the hands of the contolling authorities of the current two party syastem.

Well, if you continually trash the Democratic party as an "extreme liberal" organization then in effect you're saying that there's the republican partry and no alternative. That's a one-party system.

I assume you mean the entire Democratic party. Please provide the quote where I said the entire Democratic party is extremely liberal.

Is this a new game you learned, RM? You make statements in so many words, and then disclaim the statements, by the fact that you didn't use the exact phrase. The book is about Democrats. You said it was liberal indoctrination. Logic dictates that you think Democrats are liberals.

To quote many on this board: sigh......

I know many Democrats personally that would never support this garbage. I dont believe that every Democrat on earth is this rediculous. There are a couple of Dems I would vote for if the opportunity came up. Zell Miller is one. Trying to paint my view with such a broad brush is incorrect. But not all Dems are libs. In this area where I live the majority of registered voters are Dems, but very few are libs. Those that are not libs do not care for this garbage and the left wing crazies that have hijacked their party. They arent happy about it at all.

I imagine however that it is frustrating when you use to broad a brush (a phrase that is so popular here) and you get called on it. Really makes you want to chew up a bob wire fence and spit out ten penny nails I bet.

I agree with you on this Ken. When do you start our grassroots campaign to have sometime effective in place by the year 2008?
