Teacher A:

• Country: Denmark
• Salary: $61,000
• Education: free – students are even paid to attend
• Healthcare: free

Teacher B:

• Country: USA
• Salary: $45,000
• Education: $25,000-100,000
• Healthcare: $2,650 for insurance, $4,000 deductible (thanks to obamacare), some additional co-pays

By comparison, it appears that Teacher A is doing pretty well. But there is some important information missing.

Teacher A:

• has an income tax liability of nearly 50% ($30,000)
• pays a 25% sales tax
• 150% vehicle registration tax – down from 180%
• over 10% of the Danish population will suffer from depression
• Denmark also ranks high in the world index of mental illness and suicide rates

Teacher B:

• has a federal income tax rate just over 10% ($4,741)
• pays an average sales tax of 8.45%
• 5.75% average vehicle registration tax
• Approximately 7.6% of Americans will suffer from depression, and have lower suicide/depression rates
