Simple, straight forward: Would you, and have you ever lied [told a white lie; little fib; etc] in order to keep the peace, or maintain your privacy or deepest secrets???

I've told white lies, little fibs, great big whoppers and self-aggrandizing tall tales. I wouldn't be human if I didn't, I wouldn't be a Christian if I couldn't confess it, and I wouldn't be a friend if I didn't come back to those I've lied to and said, "Look, I'm sorry, but about what I said earlier ... "

Of course, but mostly in the case of others.

I keep offenses a secret, and when asked if I know that a certain person had committed a certain offense, I know I'm really being asked if there is any bad of which I know and which I'm willing to reveal. Unless a greater evil would result in keeping it a secret, my answer is no.

    Good Spin-Out!

I never mentioned or even insinuated "habitual lying!" I just wanted to know if you, the responder ever told a lie.

I agree, if someone is habitual, they may need to check their Christianity at the door and head to the alter for prayer.

Thanks for reading much more into this then it was intended for.

Now, maybe you can answer the question, knowing we are not talking about habitual truth fabricators.

Interesting poll. IMO, only the first two responses apply. The second one is impossible to achieve, so only number one is a valid choice. By the way, you come up with some fascinating threads with polls attached. Really produce some good thoughts.

    Thanks.....

...I appreciate the compliment! And a great point about needing only two questions. I just wanted to get in between the lines for those who may not see all lies as lies [sort of like Billy Clinton].

As for the polls, I owe it all to the Holy Spirit. I'll be doing something else, maybe on another forum or site or blog, when God hits me with a thought for a poll, and I drop everything, go straight to the Baptist Board and write and submit the thread.

I do this [drop everything else], because at my age, I can't but something in the back of my mind and expect it to be there a little later down the line. Memories are not what they used to be!

    Picky, picky?

The altar is no more of a symbolic thing than a brick and mortar church building. The altar, for many of us, is a place where people gather for prayer. The power of the prayer they seek is not in the material or design, or even the placement of the altar, but rather their faith [that drew them forward] and those that pray with them in agreement as the Word teaches us to do?

Did you get out of the wrong side of your bed today? Pickiness does not serve you or the Savior you claim to serve, justice.

AMEN! - a place to gather and pray.

Next, my answer to the poll is Yes I have lied.

Can you honestly say there is no instance in which you will not tell a lie? Can you honestly say that you will not tell a lie later today or tomorrow?

Isn't it a lie to reply to someone with the word "Fine" when they ask how you're feeling -- and you don't feel well? Many times I've done that simply because I don't want to talk about what's hurting today in this aged body.

Isn't it a lie when you don't give information requested because you are privy to info that should be kept private?

Isn't it a lie to tell a child how well they did xyz when they actually didn't? (Being encouraging rather than factual.)

Isn't it a lie -- scores of things that happen at work to keep a job -- not to tell the whole truth in any situation?

IMO, as Christians, it is almost impossible to be 100% truthful with everyone we meet, everyday. How often must we "shade" the truth with others? IMO, often enough that we are all habitual liars (within the context of the OP). The only man who has walked this earth in complete truth is our Saviour.

Will I tell a lie of some type before this day is over? Probably. Not bald faced lies -- Did you run the stop sign? No! -- when I did so and deserve the ticket. Lies of the more subtle kind when the intent is to do good. Trusting that my Saviour will temper His judgement with mercy because He knows the reason why I sinned. And why I pray for forgiveness.

I always have to laugh when I listen to WretchedRadio and they ask people "Have you ever told a lie? Have you ever ________"

I always think to myself, "It's a good thing I'm not on that show. It's only a two hour show and there's no way I could list all my sins in two hours".

Yes, I have lied. Sadly, and to my shame, I have lied since being saved. Fortunately for me, Jesus is far more faithful to us than we are to Him.

But would I lie? Probably. There is a principle in Christinity called simul justus et peccator. It means that, even though we are called righteous in Christ, we are still sinners. So, probably.

But I would hope that, I wouldn't do anything I have to lie my way out of. And, if it came down to telling a white lie to spare somebody's feelings, that, rather than lying, I would find a tactful way to tell the truth and spare their feelings.

But aren't altars for sacrifices? Where is the sacrifice?

And if you admit that "The altar, for many of us, is a place where people gather for prayer. The power of the prayer they seek is not in the material or design, or even the placement of the altar, but rather their faith", then wouldn't that mean that it is merely symbolic?

Wow, didn't notice that until you pointed out. Surely that was a "mis-click"?
