Ok, this is not a big problem, but it really irritates me. I have lost the animation of smilies and avatars on my computer.

I thought it was just Firefox since I updated it the other day. So I have gone throug the whole uninstall, reinstall, update Java/Flash/Shockwave/Quicktime, deleted all my profiles and started over...for nada.

So, I flipped over to IE to see what it did...and they aren't working in it either.

I realy don't know what is going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated here.

    In Christ,

I have combed through my firewall to amke sure that it is not blocking them. i have checked everything that I can find to check in both browsers to make sure that they aren't blocking them.

Thought: My Windows updated itself about the same time that I updated Firefox, and I cleaned out a bunch of old junk from my hard drive the next day. Could something have taken a file along with it, or corrupted one? If so, which?

The problem is fixed. I think.

Make a long story short...my daughter was checking out movie previews, and we got slammed by a bunch of adware/spyware and a virus that got in under my antivirus. i just wish I knew what sites she went to, but my browser was hit, as was my AV. I had to reinstall both of them.

Just a note. Housecall.trendmicro.com did not find the virus, but 15 minutes later my AV did after I reinstalled it. May want to find a different second opinion online.

Could any of your java settings have changed? Do you have PC Doctor on your computer?

PC Doctor found about 480 or so "problems", and PCBugDoctor found 1100 or so. Both want money ($29.99 and $39.99, respectively) to fix them. Lots of little registry stuff.

I'm going to look for a registry cleaner tomorrow (gotta dig out some old copies of Computer Shopper...there was an article...).

I'm really hoping to figure it out. I do not want to wipe it all and start over...way too much stuff to back up...

The problem is not just in Firefox, Diane. It is also in IE. So the problem is in my computer itself.

The problem was in my firewall!

Turns out that when I renewed my security suite, I was upgraded to the new package. This one includes Ad Blocking in the firewall. The default setting is All, which really cuts down on online ads...and also cut out any online animations.

I use this image for my avatar on another forum, tech-forums.net:

I happen to enjoy it, as well as the avatars of several others...not to mention other animations posted here and there, as well as smilies.

I'm just glad I got it solved.
