Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan said Sunday that presidential candidate Barack Obama is the "hope of the entire world" that the U.S. will change for the better.

The 74-year-old Farrakhan, addressing an estimated crowd of 20,000 people at the annual Saviours' Day celebration, never outrightly endorsed Obama but spent most of the nearly two-hour speech praising the Illinois senator.

"This young man is the hope of the entire world that America will change and be made better," he said. "This young man is capturing audiences of black and brown and red and yellow. If you look at Barack Obama's audiences and look at the effect of his words, those people are being transformed."

Farrakhan compared Obama to the religion's founder, Fard Muhammad, who also had a white mother and black father.

"A black man with a white mother became a savior to us," he told the crowd of mostly followers. "A black man with a white mother could turn out to be one who can lift America from her fall."

Farrakhan also leveled small jabs at Hillary Rodham Clinton, Obama's rival for the Democratic nomination, suggesting that she represents the politics of the past and has been engaging in dirty politics.

Farrakhan's keynote address at McCormick Place, the city's convention center, wrapped up three days of events geared at unifying Islamic followers and targeting youth. Story

The shallowness of the attacks on Senator Obama are exhibited well by the spread of this photo by whomever.

I don't have a problem with it. Evidently, though, someone(maybe the Clinton campaign?) thinks it can be used as a smear.

Like I said before, we ain't seen nothing yet! The reason it doesn't bother me is, the people who believe and propagate things like this aren't going to vote for Obama anyway. I also think that most people realize it is a political attack and ignore it.

Farrakhan in Obama's corner is a travesty of high proportions.

Yes, Dagwood, it is very sad to see a once great political party like the GOP reduced to offering nothing more in the forthcoming general election than character assassination, innuendo, and fearmongering.

However, if the Republicans think we supporters of Senator Obama are going to sit back and take it, then they will be in for a quite rude surprise.

And the wonderful and perfect democrats have never been guilty of character assasination, innuendo, and fearmongering. You'll have to do better than that. LOL!!!!

No, it doesn't surprise me there are people here that would post this picture without a caption of where it was taken, or why it was taken and even when it was taken... One can imagine the spin you would put on this..

It's ashame people can't fight him on the *real* issues but instead want to talknig about how black he is, how Muslim he is, how anti-Christ he is...

How about a real chat about real issues for a change?

    2 negatives do make a positive [-(-1) = 1], if that matters.

I understand math... but in politics and most other places in life... two negatives don't make a positive.

If they did, then this country is in great shape with the two parties we have to pick from!
