Rom 7:4

4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

One of the things that lets us know that Christ's Death was limited to only a blessed portion of mankind instead of all of it without exception, is by its accomplishments, because we know that all do not partake of its accomplishments, but only some !

Paul writes here a most tremendous Truth concerning Believers only, saying to them, " Ye also are become dead to the law" !

The most important thing here is just how did this happen ? How did they become dead to the Law ? Was it by their Faith or Believing ? What about their Repentance , or Water Baptism ? God forbid, it wasn't because of anything they did, but it was solely by the Body of Christ, which simply means His Death !

Its crystal clear in the verse Rom 7:4

4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

Remember when Peter writes 1 Pet 2:24

24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

That Christ bore the belivers sins in His OWN BODY on the Tree, thats Pauls meaning when he writes :

4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

Thats how believers became dead to the Law, when Christ bare their sins [after being charged to Him] in His Own Body on the Tree.

Now if we are one of the Blessed Ones that Christ bare our sins on that Tree, as also stated here Isa 53:11-12

11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Yes, if we are one of those blessed many, instantly and at once we became dead to the Law !

You may have missed something -

1John 2:
3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

John says -
Rev 22:
14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.(KJV)

Christ said

Mark 7

7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
10 For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:
11 But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.
12 And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;
13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

Exodus 20
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

John 14
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

1 John 5
2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

Rev 14:12
12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

1 Cor 7:19 .. "what matters is keeping the Commandments of God"

“The Perpetuity of the Law of God”

Very great mistakes have been made about the law. Not long ago there were those about us who affirmed that the law is utterly abrogated and abolished, and they openly taught that believers were not bound to make the moral law the rule of their lives. What would have been sin in other men they counted to be no sin in themselves. From such Antinomianism as that may God deliver us. We are not under the law as the method of salvation, but we delight to see the law in the hand of Christ, and desire to obey the Lord in all things. Others have been met with who have taught that Jesus mitigated and softened down the law, and they have in effect said that the perfect law of God was too hard for imperfect beings, and therefore God has given us a milder and easier rule. These tread dangerously upon the verge of terrible error, although we believe that they are little aware of it.

Section 19 of the "Baptist Confession of Faith" .

Section 19
. The Law of God

• God gave to Adam a law of universal obedience which was written in his heart, and He gave him very specific instruction about not eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. By this Adam and all his descendants were bound to personal, total, exact, and perpetual obedience, being promised life upon the fulfilling of the law, and threatened with death upon the breach of it. At the same time Adam was endued with power and ability to keep it.

• The same law that was first written in the heart of man continued to be a perfect rule of righteousness after the Fall, and was delivered by God upon Mount Sinai in the TEN COMMANDMENTS, and written in two tables, the first four containing our duty towards God, and the other six, our duty to man.

• Besides this law, commonly called the moral law, God was pleased do give the people of Israel ceremonial laws containing several typical ordinances. These ordinances were partly about their worship, and in them Christ was prefigured along with His attributes and qualities, His actions, His sufferings and His benefits. These ordinances also gave instructions about different moral duties. All of these ceremonial laws were appointed only until the time of reformation, when Jesus Christ the true Messiah and the only lawgiver, Who was furnished with power from the Father for this end, cancelled them and took them away.

• To the people of Israel He also gave sundry judicial laws which expired when they ceased to be a nation. These are not binding on anyone now by virtue of their being part of the laws of that nation, but their general equity continue to be applicable in modern times.

The moral law ever binds to obedience everyone, justified people as well as others, and not only out of regard for the matter contained in it, but also out of respect for the authority of God the Creator, Who gave the law. Nor does Christ in the Gospel dissolve this law in any way, but He considerably strengthens our obligation to obey it

Made us dead to the Law ! 2

Now what does it mean to be dead to the Law ? Rom 7:4

4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

Now understand, the Law, which is the strength of sin 1 Cor 15:56

56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

Sin is Transgression of the Law 1 Jn 3:4 ! It means that we have been put to death to the curse of the Law Gal 3:13

13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

We are dead to the curse of the Law, when Christ bare our sins [that were charged to him] in His Own Body on the Tree, He was then made a curse for us, redeeming us from the curse of the Law, so all for whom Christ died, are by that death alone dead to the curse of the Law, which in and of itself is an aspect of Salvation Ps 106:10

And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.

Isa 63:9

For many unlearned men would make a difference in being saved and being redeemed, they are the same !, just stated differently !

None whom Christ died for shall ever hear these words directed towards them as some will Matt 25:41

41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

I doubt you are arguing for a "works" salvation... But how does what you posted and what savedbymercy posted go together? After all, being dead to the law and following His commandments are both in the Bible, are they not?

Surely we shouldn't nullify one or both of the ideas? So, how do they go together?

Blessings,

And so... are you arguing that Christians are now free to do whatever? To break the law, wherever it might suit us, to have adultery, etc.?

I see the rewrite and redefine Calvinists are at it again. Now the body of Christ refers to Christ's death. Twaddle

Good luck with that, Archangel. SBM tends to want folks to simply agree with him and "rehearse" what he has already stated. He's got quite the history of hyper-Cal statements.

Yep... Been there, done that with him.

Perhaps the most troubling thing about savedbymercy is that he doesn't feel the need to read or use the text of Scripture in context.

Many try and fail, but the attempt is admirable. SBM doesn't even engage in the attempt.

My experience is that SBM more often than not twists and ignores parts of scripture to make it fit his theological bend, rather than fitting himself to what the scripture says. The instances of him plain out ignoring the word "IF," and thereby changing the meaning of a certain scripture stands out most clearly to me.

SBM, why are we dead to the Law, but it is written upon our hearts? I ask this as a sincere question. Thanks.

I'm not evading anything. Rather, I'm asking you to clarify what you mean. The reason? Your post was not at all clear.

That you're refusing to answer a simple, clarifying question suggests that you are saying we may do anything, any sin, etc. because we're dead to the Law....

the arch angel

Of course you are !

Thats an evasion tatic, because you are asking me about something I did not post !

I want you to rehearse with me exactly what I posted, not something I did not post ! Now read the OP, in fact now, My first Two posts in this thread, and explain back to me exactly what I posted without you asking a evasive question of something I did not state !

Your question was :

Thats something I never posted ! So again, rehearse what I exactly posted with me or leave it alone !
