It seems that Islam was able to come up with a few insensitive political cartoons of their own.

Wars have been fought based on religion throughout human history. Therefore, it isn't surprising that such nastiness is in cartoons.

The best advice is that of the Christ's:

Matthew 7:12 (ESV)
"So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

If everyone tried to live by this rule it would solve a lot of the turmoil in the world.
