AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, June 23 (UPI) -- Thousands of people in the Netherlands say they expect the world to end in 2012, and many say they are taking precautions to prepare for the apocalypse.

It is an interesting curiosity that the Mayan calendar ends in 2012.

Relating to the year 2012, I happened to turn past Jack Van Impe's show a couple of weeks ago and stopped for a minute (I am not a regular nor irregular viewer, nor a "follower" of his). He was saying that his reading of the scriptures points to the rapture in 2012 and Christ's return in 2019. Of course he emphasized how we're not supposed to predict a time for Christ's return (the standard meaningless disclaimer) and then he said "BUT...."and then went into his so-called prediction.

How does one prepare for an event over which one has no control?

No offense, but that has to be one of the most ignorant articles I have ever read. If the world is going to end in 2012 there is no amount of preparation that will help them. I would be willing to guess that many of these are the same people who made themselves ready for Y2K as well. I wonder what the new doomsday date will be when 2012 comes and goes?

==Interesting but I am not sure why it matters. All of the "2012 hypers" are putting a lot of importance on that point. What about all the calendars that go past 2012? It just seems like they are doing a lot of picking and choosing.

No wonder Robert Louis Stevenson used terms like "sons of double Dutchmen." Maybe they're "drunk" from riding the windmills.

LOL Ed. My theory is that they'd been counting for a while and just got tired of it!

    Mayan EOR theory:
The Mayan calendar ends in our 2012 cause the Mayans reached the End Of their Rock (EOR)

    Mayan TOC theory:
The Mayan calendar ends in our 2012 cause the Mayans making the calendar got Tired of Counting (TOC)

    Other theories?

BTW, Matthew 24:36 has the pretribulation resurrection/rapture happening 7 years (70th Week of Daniel) before the Lord comes to all the world in power and glory. If 2012 is the date of the final coming of the Lord to whip up on the Antichrist and his lackies, then the pretribulation rapture event should have happened in 2005. But it didn't -- Bible is right again!
