    The difference?

The difference is that not all CCMers are doing what they do for the money, some are genuinely doing it because it can be used as a ministry!

The Christian Hard Rockers Sacred Warrior helped me make a descion for Jesus Christ. I was loaned one of their albums by a friend. their lyrics made me think about Jesus Christ and what Christianity was about. I went with my friend to his Salvation Army church and gave my life to Jesus.

As far as being in it for money goes, Sacred Warriors album can be downloaded free from their website. http://www.sacredwarrior.net/

  4. I can see why our Nation is deteriorating to the point that it is. As we brace for war with the nations that oppose Chirst and His Word, we debate why WE think we can listen to the music we wish. Try comparing all the wordly music to the Words and the way Christ lived. Compare the music to the words of the Psalmists. Praise the Lord He saved me from the old world and it's music and gave me a new song. Maybe we should surrender a little more to HIM and less to what "We" think we can get away with and justify in our own minds.

"The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul. If heed is not paid to this, it is not true music but diabolical bawling and twanging."
    ---Johan Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)

    OK. Let's do that:

    Buddy Miller -

Take your suitcase and take your heart
Take a train to the dark
    My love will follow you
    My love will follow you
You can try to lose yourself downtown
You can burn all your bridges down
    My love will follow you
Oh My love will follow you

    My love will follow you
Down every highway of your soul
You can leave Me far behind
My love will be your shadow
    Everywhere you go

    So close the door
    Turn in the key
Leave Me here like a memory
    My love will follow you
Oh My love will follow you

Even on the road that takes you down
Where the cords of human kindness come unwound
    My love will follow you
Oh My love will follow you

    My love will follow you
Down every highway of your soul
You can leave Me far behind
My love will be your shadow
    Everywhere you go

If you should ever go so far
    That you cannot get back
    You may not remember
But My heart will not lose track

    My love will follow you
Down every highway of your soul
You can leave Me far behind
My love will be your shadow
    Everywhere you go

    Delbert McClinton -

As I stand on this mountain
    Face to the wind
Amazed by the number of times
    You go and sin
    The countless enemies
    That could've been friends
    Oh here he comes again

    He keeps sending me angels
    Here they come a flyin'
    He keeps sending me angels
    To keep me from cryin'
    (He keeps) Sending me angels
    So I'll never he blue
    He keeps sending me angels
    Just like you

    Bob Hunter -

    Hold out your hand
    If your cup is empty
    If your cup is full
    May it be again
    Let it be known
    There is a Fountain
    That was not made
    By the hands of man

    Randy Stonehill -

    Fire, holy flame
Walk with me, walk with me
    Fire, holy flame
Take my heart And burn away this darkness in Your fire

I did not know that I was blind until I looked into Your eyes
I did not know that I was lost until You found me
I did not know I was a fool until I heard the words You speak
They are spirit, they are life, they are
    Fire, holy flame
Walk with me, walk with me
    Fire, holy flame
Take my hand And I will follow you into Your fire

I did not know my savage thirst until You lead me to Your well
I did not know I lived in chains until You freed me
I did not know I was afraid until You gave Your perfect love
Love that casts out all my fears
    Fire, holy flame
Walk with me, walk with me
    Fire, holy flame
Take my soul That I may dwell forever in Your fire

And when I feel the flame within this burning white hot light of truth
My body trembles 'til I feel my flesh will leave my bones
My soul is filled with Mourning such as I have never known
A piercing aching sorrow, heavy as a grave stone
And I cry out, I am ruined, oh, I am undone
Then like Ezekiel You bring burning coals to touch my tongue
    Cleansing me from my iniquity
Under the shadow of Your cross you shelter me
You shelter me in Your fire Holy flame
Walk with me, walk with me
    Oh, fire, holy flame
Take my hand, take my heart, take my soul
    Fire, holy flame
Walk with me, take my hand and walk with me I will follow You...

I could go on, but you get the point.

No, he said "all the worldly music" which, given the context, I took to mean rock and roll.

By the way, you've never demonstrated when Buffett has ever "defaced a Bible".

I find it a serious mistake on the part of the church to dismember any individual for listening to secular music in general. Not that I consider listening to secular music sinful, cause I don't, but keep in mind that if we kicked every individual out who was sinful or acting in a sinful manner....there wouldn't be a church anywhere. Btw....there are really good secular songs out there with really good messages.

Could any muscian that sins be chucked into the same boat as Marylin Manson?

Take Amy Grant for example and her willing divorce and remarrige.

Is she as bad an example as Marylin Manson, or worse, for knowing Jesus, then doing it anyway?

    Hello all,
I am seeing alot of legalism in this post. Many chrisians believe all secular music is wrong. I would have to disagree. We have created a christian sub-culture, so to speak. We have chrisitan schools, bookstores, music, etc. We are drawing ourselves away from the world as the years go by. Instead of falling into the clutch of legalism, we must, instead, try to imitate the lifestyle of Christ. Remember, Christ condmened the Pharisees, and by us on this board condemning things and people left and right---wouldn't that also make us Pharisees? All of us(regenerate and unregenerate) deserve one thing-hell. God has chosen to save us and give us grace. So why is it we judge everything possible we can judge? I think some of these posts are a reflection of the way many churches are becoming-arrogant and pompous. Let us strive to be like Christ......and instead of condemning, let us love these people who need the gospel just as much as we still do. God Bless, Trevor

Another thing........do you guys really believe CCM is all that great? You all are fooling yourselves. As a musician, I have seen the way the Christian music industry is.....and it is far away from God. Here is the difference between the Secular Music Industry and the Christian Music Industry.......one screws you over with a smile and one doesnt. I would also like to say that I enjoy very few CCM bands and singers(Caemdons Call, Andrew Peterson, Jars of Clay and Derek Webb).......I listen to secular bands such as Dave Matthews Band who talk about sex in their songs.........does this make me less of a christian? Does this make those who only listen to CCM better than me? We all need to understand the fullness of the Grace of Jesus Christ a little bit better.........here are a couple of books i recommend

    1) The Cross Centered Life-C.J Mahaney
    2) The Ragamuffin Gospel-Brennan Manning

Are you talking about Marilyn Manson?
If you are you are alot farther gone than I thought you were. I happed upon one of his/her music videos flipping through the channels one night and I could feel the Holy Spirit being quenched and heartbroken. Even my 15 year old son who I dont quibble much with concerning what he listens to can see something wrong with Manson.

Its just typical of the general condition of the Church of Jesus Christ today.

    He da man.

I was flipping the channels the other morning and he was on Imus in the morning.

He didn't look good at all.

What is it about rock stars who spend all those years drinking whiskey and doing blow and running around with strippers and they look like they're on top of the world. Then, when they finally get straight, they fall apart?

I believe that the young person listening to the world-weary, bitter lyrics of Manson should be told of what is wrong with listening to them.

Secondly, he should be made aware of how God views someone who delights in evil. It's obvious that it would grieve or anger God.

Third, I believe that you (or someone) should pray for him in his presence (with his consent) that God would open his eyes and turn his heart toward Jesus.

Continue to pray that God will spare him from slipping any further into sin. God can change anyone -- He changed me!

    Hope this helps,

    jh

If a young adult is listening to Manson, chances are if you take the approach of praying for him in his presence and making that person feel like they are low for listening to him, you won't get anywhere with that person. Consider the fact that something attracted the individual to Manson and what Manson stands for so it goes much deeper than some kid listening to music he shouldn't. Look a bit deeper at Manson, what is this person relating in his own life to Manson's life and his message? Manson grew up in a very strict Christian home, perhaps anger, pain or feeling misunderstood or unheard are all part of the purpose to tune into his lyrics. Taking a direct, in-your-face approach could easily turn out to be fatal to the reaction you wish to see in them. If anything, try understanding....ask that person what it is they like about Manson's music and even offer to read lyrics or study deeper so that person can see you obviously do care about them and not just on a "religious mission" to get them away from the music they enjoy.

That'll work too! Maybe I'm a little out of sync in my dealings with young people.

Whatever you may do, please include prayer in the ingredients. As much intercession as you can spare time for, I would think. Drop bombs on all idols.

    with love, Jon

Has anybody noticed that he's Manson has been awfully quiet and out of the public eye (thank God) for the last eighteen months or so?

I wonder if his fifteen minutes is finally up.
