I have one of Dever's books and agreed with it mostly. However what I disagree about him is his ego and trying to jam his ideals down everyones throats on his interpretation on what a healthy church is. Plenty of churches do not fit his bill that are more healthier than churches that do fit his bill. One die hard Way of the Master fan told me that he is not gonna listen or read anything by Jeremiah because he is a 9 Marks Christian.

    http://www.9marks.org/books/recommendations

I have read 2 books endorsed by 9 Marks on evangelism and its very obvious that the authors have a different interpretation on how to do evangelism over Ray Comfort. Ji Packer focuses on friendship evangelism in his evangelism book that I read, and the other book does not recommend The Way of the Master. However at Shadow Mountain they do use The Way of the Master as one of several evangelism methods. I just found it odd that a die hard Way of the Master fan would tell me that David Jeremiah is not worth it, yet fully endorse the 9 Marks program which does not endorse of recommend the Way of the Master.

Not sure why a person's view of TWOTM or of 9 Marks is a litmus test for reading anyone's writing about Scripture.

There's a great saying, "You don't have to be my twin to be my brother."

Wonder how the Holy spirit was able to save sinners before there were those ways to Evangelise others?

The same way he saves them now. I believe that much of the "stuff" that is proclaimed as beneficial for believers is simply a money machine for these folks, not far removed from the "seed faith" appeal of some of the Word Faith people!

You know, I think you are right. Seems the Ramsey and Comfort (amongst others) people get a lot of money from folks who can't afford their wares.

You may have a point. My church is not in favor of the TWOTM approach for evangelism. I prefer it, but I am not WOTM Only.

Tell him to read Hells Best Kept Secret and other Ray Comfort books. He has not read them, or he doe snot agree with them, and why he does not endorse any of his books on his site or in any of his books.

What an odd statement. Definitely ask him for clarification on what he means.

Perhaps his devotion to 9Marksism just doesn't leave him time to follow a third ministry?

I try real hard not to be a "fan" of anybody but Jesus. Falling off of bandwagons is painful.

It is true that any church that tries to mimic the 9marks approach by the book without considering their own unique situation and people is asking for a load of trouble and unnecessary pain. BUT...I would also say that someone who things the 9marks people have nothing good to say is also not considering what is on the whole, good stuff.

Will Metger's book is very good, as is "Tell if often, tell it well" by McLosky.
I have Packer's book but haven't read it. Marks of the Messenger is also very good, written by little-known Mack Stiles, who moved his family to the Middle East right after 911, and has been ministering there ever since.

seems the message of christ got pushed thru the Roman Empire by the Holy Spirit without our "methods' though!

also did the same in wesl and Great revival/awakining...

what did He know that we are not doing right here?

We are over-saturated with 'method' and under-saturated with the Holy Spirit.

Our church links to 9 marks as a good way to show those seeking a serious, bibilical fellowship what we believe. When they see "reformed" Baptist in the yellow pages, they aren't always sure - what we did wrong so we needed reforming!!

Liking Dever (or MacArthur or Piper) is not cultic. Thank God for good men who we can learn from and admire. I like Knox and Luther and Calvin and Spurgeon, too. Don't "nit-pick" at someone because they are a "fan" of a Christian leader or teacher.

Point taken- but if you read the OP's other posts to this board you may understand better why I made that comment. I like a bunch of those people you mentioned too.

Nothing wrong with those methods that have been mentioned on this OP< nor the authors you referred too either...

Think that we can also ALL agree that without the mobving of the Holy Spirit in our midst...

    NO methods will do squat!
