Didn't Texas already have marriage legislation? Here in Calif, marriage is defined by statute as being between one male, and one female. I thought that was already the case in TX.

TX already had legislation. However, if one remembers MA their Supreme Court ruled that the state Constitution contained a "right" to gay marriage. What TX is doing is amending its state Constitution to prevent a future state Supreme Court from finding a similar "right".

I am not certain of what you are asking.

Texas has voted in an ammendment to our constitution that clarified traditional marriage as between one man and one woman.

"Marriage in this state shall consist only of the union of one man and one woman. "

    Passed overwhelmingly, btw.

    75-80% for the amendment.

Well, one thing is for sure. We texans may put up with nudie-bars and liquor stores and murdering babies, but we won't stand for dudes marrying other dudes!

    Doesn't Texas have casinos?

75-80% for the amendment is not a very wide
majority. That means 20 -30 percent are on the other side.

It will be challenged in the Supreme Court under the full faith and credit clause of the constitution. I guess gay Texans are going to have to move to Maine now.

    She sounds a bit unreliable.

Your other link is confusing because the statistics cited conflict and contradict one another. There is nothing given to base a preference for one study over another. None of the actual studies are provided or are linked to. At any rate, according to the stats given there, heterosexual predators far outnumber homosexual and girls are way more likely to be abused and assaulted than boys.

What has marriage between homosexuals got to do with preying on children? Pedophilia is totally illegal whether the perpetrator is married or not.

This ammendment will no doubt end up before the courts since the wording was so terribly drafted that it actually outlaws ALL marriage in the state of Texas.

SECTION 3. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 8, 2005. The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the proposition: "The constitutional amendment providing that marriage in this state consists only of the union of one man and one woman and prohibiting this state or a political subdivision of this state from creating or recognizing any legal status identical or similar to marriage."

Bold and italics added by me.

Any legal status idendical or similar to marriage, would include, as far as I can tell, any marriage. Whatcha think?????

Of course I am no lawyer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once.
