Do you, as a pastor, charge people you marry, or do you have them tip you? Or do you charge and expect a tip?

How much is the average expected tip?

Don't charge any church member for the ceremony. Never heard of a tip.

The standard joke is that we tell the groom that they should give the pastor whatever they think she is worth. :tongue3:

I charge 10% of what they are spending on the wedding reception. :tongue3:

I do not set a fee. I tell the couple that an honorarium is usually offered and that I would not insult their generosity by refusing it.

I don't have a set honorarium for ceremonies. If someone asks I refer them to our wedding coordinator or their wedding coordinator. Usually its anywhere from $100-$200.

If a couple is scraping by I will make sure my gift to them equals or exceeds their honorarium if they give one.

Dh has performed one wedding. It was an impromptu deal, very informal, and they gave him a $40 honorarium.

Even when there is no fee, often people will put a few dollars in a plain envelope for the pastor. I guess one has to accept it, or just give it to the church. Would that be a "tip"?

    Cheers,

    Jim
