If I am understanding this situation correctly, Martha Stewart was convicted of lying to the Feds, but it was not while under oath.

Now, lying is a sin but it is not a crime to lie unless one is under oath, is it?

This is fascinating, regardless of whether Martha Steward lied under oath or not, since we know that Bill Clinton lied under oath but his defenders dismissed it under the defense of "Well, everyone lies about sex."

Is there a double standard in this situation? I think the answer is yes.

What's better than an $85,000 purse?? $85,000 inside of the $85,000 purse!!

Blackbird to Patrolman: "Officer! Somebody just stole my wife's purse!"

Patrolman to Blackbird: "Can you describe the purse?"

Blackbird to Patrolman: "Yes, Sir! Officer! I can! It looks just like $85,000!!"

I sure hope that Daniel David was joking and that vaspers didn't mean what (he?) said about "I love seeing corporate scum and wealthy arrogant celebrities succumb to Justice."

Have you Christians not heard of mercy???

Mercy is good, but so is justice.

God wants all to repent and be saved, but those who refuse to do so get cursed, condemned, and plagued by the evil forces they themselves put into motion.

Check Psalms for the real scoop on some of these concepts: mercy, yes. justice and "reap what you sow" also.

As far as Harry Potter books helping overcome illiteracy or whatever, that's another thread, but come on.

Witchcraft, sorcery, occult stuff is an abomination to God. Look up the word in any concordance. I can't spoon feed you the verses.

But any Christian who defends Harry Potter or witchcraft--well, that's the main reason I just resigned from a church. It was rampant and the Pastor and Deacons didn't care, and told me so.

God hates witchcraft. Harry Potter is training in actual black magic, John Hagee has done some fine exposes on this topic on his TV program.

    Wake up people.

So all those guys who hate to read but will pick up Playboy for the, uh, articles...that's more good than harm too, right?
    Gina
</font>[/QUOTE]That is an asinine statement and you know it. What I said had nothing to do with Playboy magazine or any other pornography. You are simply looking for a fight and I will not oblige you.

Terry, I get too scared of men who might yell back to intentionally pick a fight with one!
Let me try to say it more clearly.
My intention was to point out the absurdity in claiming something is good because it causes one to have more interest in reading.
Whether the lure is, pornography or witchcraft or violence or thievery, it still doesn't justify the manner it's presented in if it is wrong, despite any good that may come out of it, such as better reading skills, a better appreciation for artwork, or what have you.
Hopefully that explains my intent in posting that more clearly than as first stated.

Justice was served up to Martha in the court.

I hope that the sentence exercises her some mercy.

Of course, if they did give her the chair, she'd just find a way to redecorate it.
