SELMER, Tenn. (AP) — The woman convicted of manslaughter in the shotgun slaying of her minister husband was freed Tuesday after serving 67 days in custody.
Mary Winkler was released from a mental health facility where she had been undergoing treatment for about two months, defense attorney Steve Farese Sr. said. He has declined to identify the facility where Winkler was held.
Winkler, 33, was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in the 2006 shotgun slaying of her husband, Matthew, at the Church of Christ parsonage in Selmer, where the couple lived with their three young daughters.

    Well she is out.

Thanks for the update. This would be unbelievable... except so much of this goes on right now that it is very believable.

Can you believe it, you can kill your husband and get 67 days locked up and thats it.
I never did follow this story too closely, was there any proof offered to her story about the sex and porn.

    No proof that I recall.

I think the jurors felt sorry for her because they didn't think that her elevator went all the way to the top.

Surely they won't give her custody of her kids?! Unbelievable!

most legal experts I've heard say it's unlikely she'll get custody.

However, she may very well see some expansion of visitation rights. :(

And likely, defending against her requests will cost thousands and thousands.

And it’s a good possibility that Michael Vick could spend more time in prison for dog fighting than Mary did for shooting her husband.

...and Kent Hovind will spend 5-10 times more time in jail than the two of them combined.

If the roles were reversed and it was the preacher who had killed his wife, I'm sure the sentence would have been MUCH harsher, whether he was mentally stable or not.

And i would have to agree with you on that one.
I keep telling my wife (who is a pastor's wife) that this is why we don't have guns in our house!

We have guns--squirt guns! Don't you know it's a great stress reliever for couples to have an all-out water battle? Not to mention it's great entertainment and gossip fodder for the neighbors. The only thing is, if you live in a parsonage, make sure to purchase your water in advance from the store so you don't get accused of running up the church's water bill. We have to live above reproach, you know.

Sorry, I'm hijacking yet another thread. I seem to be doing that a lot lately.:tongue3:
