Who is this speaking about? How can we know we are not in thi number?
Mat 7:21-23
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

be those who were water baptised, went to church a lot, read the bible, tried to do their best, did everything the 'right way"...

yet never turned to Yeshua in order to be saved by grace of god, as they thought they were 'doing enough' to have God accepted them in!

According to the passages they accepted Jesus. They say they did everything in His name and He never says they did not. So they were claiming Jesus.

thre problem was that he said that he "never knew them"

They professed knowing jesus, but he never had a relationship with any of them!

Yes, but why? The believed in Him which you ahve stated in the past is all that is needed, they did what they did in His name, what was the problem?

The Catholic church claimed to be acting in Jesus' name when they murdered millions of believers who would not accept conversion to Catholicism. Mormons claim to act in Jesus' name while their doctrine reduces God to a former man. Claiming to commit acts in Jesus' name does not mean that one is following the historical Jesus of the Bible.

Notice what those in Matthew leaned upon for access to God's eternal heaven. They were claiming the goodness of their own acts instead of the sacrifice of Christ. We have done so many "wonderful works", why wouldn't you let us in?! If He were to ask any of His children why they deserve to be with Him, we would cry, "I do not deserve it, but I claimed the blood of Christ upon my life." We'd be crying for Jesus to represent us before the Father.

That, my friends, is why many will cry Lord, Lord, yet be turned away from the presence of God.

Exactly! they were looking to be saved by God due to their good works done, but they were NOT trusting in jesus as their Saviour, but trusting in works!

If they did not believe that He died for their sins what do you think they believed about Him? They are calling Him Lord which means God.
The passage says what the problem is we just need to believe it.

Catholics, mormons, jw's & Jews believe in the same God, but they don't believe in the Biblical Savior. Heck, Satan & his demons not only believe in God, they know Him personally. So, what do you believe will keep them separated from the Father?

I have answered the op based upon the text of the passage & the Biblical truth that ALL who believe are given eternal life. Surely, you don't need all of the Scriptural references for that one. You have yet to post anything of relevance or depth. The passage must be interpreted in light of other passages on salvation; not in a vacuum where you give a "It says what it says and I believe what it says based on what it says" type of responses.

The passage should be understood in reference to what it says not what some other book says it means. It says the reason they were not known was because they were workers of iniquity. They believed everything and got caught up in all the excitement. Some preached, some did mighty deeds, and so on, and all in the name of the Lord, but thye were workers of iniguity. That is an interesting Greek work. It means to be wihtout law, lawless.

They were shocked at judgment because they believed in Jesus. The problem was they had not repented. They remained lawless.
This has nothing to with the JW's or the Mormons. This is about people who come to Christ without repenting toward God. They are lawless. They are not trying to earn their way. They claim faith and by saying, but we did all this in your name shows they believed Him to be who He clained.
It is like a person who has the practice knowingly and willfully going just 5 mile over the speed limit because they think the law will not pull them or because everyone else is doing it. Or the person who comes to a stop sign and slows to a crawl but does not stop. It used to be called a rolling stop.
These are people who feel that although they know the law they can fudge on it because, well it is such a small infraction. They park in the handycap or park in the fire lain because they will be right back. No real biggies but they are lawbreakers in spirit.
That spirit is then carried over into the spiritual. Thye think God is like them, no harm no foul. This is what He is speaking about. They have all the outward trappings of being saved, but inwardly do not hold the things of God as high and holy. Grace is their high bar, not obedience and surrender. They do not believe that a little levain levains the whole loaf.
Have you ever heard of someone who is pulled for going 56 in a 55 and then get upset with the police for pulling them. This is the person the Lord is speaking about. They do not think God means what He says and frankly they don't see the reason He should as long as they do not hurt anyone. They have never surrendered/repented. They have a form of Godliness but deny the power there of.
A true believer is like what David wrote about. Day and night they meditate on thy word O Lord. Everything is yes Lord for the saved down to the slightest detail. They are those who can do nothing against the truth 2Cor. 13:5-8.
The thing that kept them from being known of Him is their un-repentant heart because of being lawless. Not that they were claiming works salvation. And because of this lawless spirit many will say Lord, Lord and hear, “I never knew you.”
