Ah, I see! Then the ceremony is sensual ...

Remember, you said it and not me. :)

I guess I assumed that the three nights meant Christ arose on Monday. Is that not scriptural? Wait, it does say He rose on the first day of the week, doesn't it?

Sunday is the first of the week...

And yes worship involves using our senses....
other wise it would be "non" sense.... lol

You cannot worship God without using your body...
    Read the Bible... sight.
    Pray... speech... hearing...
    sing... hearing
Even meditating, you are using your brain, which is part of your body.
    (well most people's are) haha.

    Lifting your hands...
    kneeling...
all of these use your senses..
    listening to preaching...

    He gave it to you...
And unless you are a gnostic, then it should be OK..

The whole point to the tenebrae service, and Maundy Thursday is to get the same sense of dispair the disciples felt.
Thus, giving us a better insight to the crucifixion.

Tiny, I really don't mean to castigate this practice. But if that is all okay, then what is it that was wrong with icons and stuatuary and incense and ... oh, well.

It is a strong preference of mine to avoid that sort of experience in church. But if it floats your gunboat ...

    Thank you amity....
And I like the phrase.... "if it sinks your ship" instead of "floats your boat"

    I have used it alot...

I didn't expect you to like it. You would probably feel uncomfortable.
But that's OK... It is great that God made us all different.
We probably do things around Christmas that you would not like either...

So stick around till December and we can compare notes then....

As for the statues and such... that is idolatry... you would then be breaking a commandment.

I think the answer has something to do with discarding everything that was part of the trappings of the established (i. e., state) church. Most of the time that was the Catholic Church. It might be said to be a case of guilt by association. The view now is that these services can contribute to the worship of God and to our experience of the crucufixion of Christ.

There is one other thing that I do on Saturday between Good Friday and Easter whether I'm alone or with someone else who can participate. It is something that I know you're familiar with, Amity. I sing "Mear" from The Sacred Harp (p. 49b), especially stanza 5:

No prophet speaks to calm our grief,
    But all in silence mourn;
Nor know the hour of our relief,
    The hour of Thy return.

I remember a Sunday morning a few years back when, after Sunday school, our pastor was conversing with some folks about coming events and he asked "Is next week Easter?"

Needless to say, we don't have a Maundy Thursday service.

Celebration of the resurrection? Why in the world would you disapprove of that?

It is not from "other faiths," it is from the Christian faith. Baptists are not the only expression of the Christian faith.

I gave you a hyperlink that would have given you the answer on the previous thread... Let's try it again --> Maundy Thursday <--

The rejection was of the idea or sacraments. That these items like incense were part of a physical way for God to distribute grace. Baptists reject sacraments.

For example we reject the idea that we need incense to carry our prayers up. But incense in and of itself is not wrong, maybe the church stinks. :)

For another example, both Catholics and Baptists use baptism. We do not reject baptism because the Catholics use it. What we reject is that baptism is a sacrament. We reject that water is used for God to distribute grace. We use the same ceremony, but for us it is used as a memorial.

    Same with Lords Supper/Communion.

Now I am sure TinyTim is not holding mass in his church. He is not doing this as a sacament, a way for God to distribute grace. He is doing it as a memorial. That makes it a Baptist ceramony even though other religions do it also.

Thus the reason we call our seats.... "pews"!

No, the real reason is Christians sit in their seat, soak up the word, but never use it so they Sour..... Then they become stinkers in the eyes of God.

You are right about the sacraments...
