    Good evening -

Our reading of 2Samuel describe a few of the events that finalize David's ascent to the kingship of Israel. The alliance of Abner, the death of Abner, the demand for the return of Michal, and the death of Ish-Bosheth. One thing I would loike to point out tonight and that is that we learn that David now has six wives. The author of samuel does not openly condemn this polygimous family, but the Book will soon bear out the consequences of the arrangement. I urge the reader to be on watch for it over the next week.

In Mark, we see the anointing of Jesus by Mary, the sister of Lazarus (she is not named in this Gospel, but she is in John). Christ states that she is preparing Him for burial which was a common practice for the deceased at that time, except for those who died as criminals. What this woman did was bring the soon to be crucified Christ into a more noble light in reference to His death.

In 2CorinthiansPaul makes a few final assertions concerning the validity of his apostleship and admits that the "super-apostles" claims of Paul being a fraud forced him into it. There are elements of irony and sarcasm (v. 16) in this passage as Paul reminds them that it was he and not these other men who performed "signs, wonders, and miracles." Paul re-iterates that he will be visiting soon and that Titus and the unnamed brother are there not to pad his pockets, but to collect for the poor of Jerusalem.

    May God bless you

    - Clint
