COOL! This would work great to keep future protesters safely contained in their free speech zones.

Can this thing have an effect on a whole crowd of people or just one persom at a time?

[IMG]I'll disperse that crowd using my Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator.

Hey, if it'll keep our troops safer...

I've seen some videos and it seems to work on big crowds.

However, can the heat be jacked up and cause not just sensation but actual burning?

What will the effect be on those people living in areas where the temperatures are not far off what the machine routinely puts out?

It looks good, if it works.

You could really mess a person up. Heat them up with the ray gun, then hose them down with the water cannons...

I do see one potential problem:

Sergeant: Private! Aim the ray gun at those insurgents.
    Private: Yes sir! Aimed, sir!
    Sergeant: Fire!
    Private: Firing, Sir!
    Sergeant: Well done, Private.
Private: Yes sir! Turning to broil, sir!
Sergeant: No, not THAT "well done"!!

because it's for crowd control not for tanks...however one could make a bomb to trigger by being microwave sensitive...if they can guess the frequency

Yes, they've moved to the aristocracy class like the samurai...

Hardly. Have you seen the paycharts?

At best they are respected (arguably idolized in a few limited circles), but they are far from the aristocracy.

A new cartoon series may be brewing here... Roger Ramjet teams with Ronald Raygun. Maybe the villain can be Ricky Rat.

This device would be effective in crowd control, but not very useful in battle. The article said that it only penetrated one sixty-forth of an inch. That is only fifteen-thousands of an inch deep which is not very deep at all. It would cause pain but not death. All it would do would be to irritate an enemy and then you would have to be within 500 yards to do so. I imagine that on the battle field that would be a grave mistake for the operators, since the enemy would probably attack and destroy this weapon.

I suspect that it is being developed only for crowd control purposes.

I agree. I don't suspect that this is a tool for the battlefield. In battle you use bullets. However, if you need to control a crowd and are still concerned with public opinion, then you ray gun 'em. Supposedly, this device can be countered by wearing mylar or tinfoil suits.

It will probably end up being a failure as a weapon.

I suspect that all a crowd would need would be a bunch of mirrors to turn the tables rather quickly.

It could be foiled by throwing small strips of tinfoil in the air. That's what warplanes do to confuse radar.
