Actually Dr. Bob I found your thought one of the more interesting ones, weather they were serious or fluffy.

    The ones I've heard are:

Mis-Quote : "Man shall not live by bread alone"
Quote : Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceddeth out of the mouth of God. Matt. 4:4

Mis-Quote : "Money is the root of all evil"
Quote : "For the love of money is the root of all evil:which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." I Timothy 6:10

Mis-Quote : "Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." *
Quote : "Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling for it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure." Philipians 2:12-13

Mis-Quote : "The truth will set you free."
Quote : " And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:32

*This one I've heard to prove that our salvation is up to us not God. That's why I quoted it here... sometimes, just leaving off the rest of the verse, can lead to a bit of misunderstanding.(This is the part I editted to add for clarity)

    How about these?
    ***********************

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

A hint to the wise is sufficient.

A rolling stone gathers no moss.

Be ye temperate in all things.

Bread is the staff of life.

Everything that glitters is not gold.

    Familiarity breeds contempt.

Fools rush in where angels fear to tread.

Gods mills grind slow but sure.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

    Honesty is the best policy.

    Know thyself.

    Knowledge is power.

    Man purposes, but God disposes.

    Robbing Peter to pay Paul.

    Silence gives consent.

Smooth runs the water where the brook is deep.

Speech is silver, silence is golden.

The fatherhood of God, and the brotherhood of man.

Time and tide waits for no man.

To err is human; to forgive is devine.

To the victor belongs the spoils.

To thine own self be true.

What's well begun is half done.

I must admit that I cheated. :D There is a whole list of expressions that are commonly thought to be biblical quotes in the front of my Bible. I only put a few here, but there are lots of them (some I don't recognize at all for instance; "God tempers the wind to the shorn lamb". Never heard that one before.) Fun thread! Thanks!

    Cleanliness is next to Godliness.
I dunno, I looked in the abridged dictionary and discovered that Goggles is next to Godliness!!

To quote Tevye from Fiddler on the Roof:
As the Good Book says, if you spit in the air, it lands in your face.
