The regular Miss America pageant WAS the Miss WASP America contest for all intents and purposes for many years. Perhaps that is what caused Miss Black America to get started in the first place.

Read the post again. I am sure that it will eventually come to you. If you don't understand some of the words, look them up in a dictionary.

I would rather see a "Miss Redneck America" contest hosted by Jerry Springer.

The question is: Should a "Miss Wasp America" be allowed? Maybe for years the orgianal was WASP, but it is not any longer. Since there is a Miss Black, should a Miss Wasp be allowed?
And while we are at it what do you think Jackson and Sharpton would have to say about it?

Beauty pagents degrade women by judging them on their external appearance. I don't support any pagent whatsoever.

If allegedly* attractive women need scholarships, let them accomplish something instead of trading on their looks.

*The reason I use the word "allegedly" is that beauty pagent contestants are notorious for the use of duct tape, copious quantities of cosmetics, and in some cases, cosmetic surgeries to get their look.

Since this thread was directed at my comment in the other thread I have two things to say. One I agree with MP as to the original origins of the pageant. On that note, I could care less if there was a Miss WASP USA pageant now, and frankly that is much different than saying an all white pageant. What part of community do you not understand Saltcity?

I lost interest in the Miss America and all other beauty pageants after the Vanessa Williams crowning and scandal.

Okay just reread my post and this thread and don't know what I was thinking. that is what happens when you try and post and you are in a hurry.....

Okay, I do agaree with what MP said. On that note, to say let's have a WASP pageant is no different from saying let's have an all white pageant. If the white population was not already 70% of the total US population that would be fine. The black, latino, asian, native american populations are only a fraction of the entire white population, so there is a difference . By virtue of sheer size most things in this country are mostly white dominated, and yes I know there are exceptions. Take the Miss USA, for example, yes it is more diversified, but is still majority white. There is absolutely no problem with that considering the US is majority white. Why does everybody throw a fit if the black, latino, or any other SMALLER community then creates a similar pageant that gives more women of that specific community a chance to compete?

I have never really liked pageants at all. Personally I do not see the point, or benefit, of watching women parading around in evening dresses.

Will caucasian women be able to compete in their pageant?

First of all, why would they want to? Sheesh.... how hard is it to think about the fact that many minority women, not just black, don't really have a chance at the Miss USA? The Miss Black USA is not a competition with the Miss USA. It just showcases more of the women of that community. Think about it, if the US was mostly black, and most things were predominantly black, there would be things that you would want to see in your own community that are "replicas" of the original. Like young girls with their dolls. Why would a black child want to have only white dolls, and vice versa? A few here and there is one thing, but certainly not every one.

Second, if you have seen any of the Miss Black USA's there are a lot of bi-racial women competing, some of whom would probably be considered white to those who didn't know.

What happened to equality, the same equality preached by Martin Luther King?

This brings up an entirely different thread...but why are they considered "black"? If they are half white, half black, why are they labeled black?

As for MLK. Reread my post, I edited it while you were posting I guess. I think it is pretty self explanatory.

As for the other thing... For goodness sake what do you want them to be labeled? They fit in both communities. Why do they have to be labeled at all? If they want to participate in a black pageant why shouldn't they? They are part of that community aren't they?.

EXACTLY! Why have a Miss Black USA at all when we already have a Miss USA? Should we have a Miss Hispanic USA? Miss Asian USA?
How about by religion...Miss Muslim USA? Miss Christian USA?

If you live in this country, you are American (unless you are an illegal...hey, there's another one...Miss Illegal Alien USA :) ). The fact is, many times the black community is the one still holding onto segregation by implementing it themselves.

Exactly nothing. Racial labels that are assigned to people are completely different from events or other community based things. I have no problem with a Miss Latino, Miss Asian, or Miss any other community racial or religious. I would not even have a problem with a Miss Irish decent USA. We are all Americans, but as Americans we still identify with certain subsets or groups. Do you have a problem with Christian film festivals? The same idea applies. Step outside the box and look at the fact that is a community thing not a racial "lets be segregated" thing.

    Sure. Why not?

One racially oriented beauty contest deserves another.

And another(Hispanic)...and another (oriental) , etc.
