perhaps because it really was a suicide, not a suicide bombing.

Persanally, I have never heard of a person committing suicide with a bomb, have you? But I have heared lots of accounts of Middle Eastern terrorist bomb makers accidentally killing themselve with their bombs.

Now you have heard of someone committing a
suicide with a bomb. On Oct. 1, Hinrichs died
on a park bench outside the school's packed
football stadium when a homemade bomb
in his possession exploded. He was alone
on a bench in the parking area.
Parts of his flesh and blood were washed off
three buses parked about 30 feet away.
He had difficulties igniting his bomb. About
50 used paper matches were found at the scene.

Remember the shoe bomber several years
ago was using a
similar system - got caught trying to light
his shoe.

The goal of a suicide bomber is to blow up
people - they are willing to give their life
(i.e. commit suicide) to accomplish their
goal. The goal of a bomb suicider is to
kill themselves with a bomb. There is
a difference between a 'bomb suicider' and a
'suicide bomber'.

Could be Ed, but if it is it is truely a rare form of personal suicide. There are just some thing people don't do. For instance, they don't decapatate themsleves. But there is alway a first time.

Seems to me if he wanted to kill a lot of people, he certainly had a much better opportunity inside the stadium, and yet, chose to stay outside away from others.

I rule this a suicide.

I'd say a would be suicide bomber who lost his nerve is more likely. His proximity to thousands of people would suggest this.

Could be the device went off by accident before he reached his choosen distanation. Home made bombs somtimes do that. The other thing that makes this a little curious is the type of explosive he used. From the news report I heard it was the same type(red Devil) used in the London subway bombings. At any rate you'd think that the press would do a little digging since the findings of the search warrents were sealed by A.T.F. .

Except for all the matches. If the accounts above are accurate, this kind of bomb needs to be ignited.

One possibility is that this was an ambivalent suicide bomber who, in the final hour, decided that what he really wanted was to kill himself only and not innocent others.

That is what I was saying in my last post. If he was only intrested in himself he could have gone to the country and not out side a stadium.

Sorry, I can copy some of the story. It is a local tv station site.

NORMAN, Okla. -- The president of an OU student organization said he believes Joel Henry Hinrichs III was neither a Muslim nor a visitor to local mosques.

Ashraf Hussein, the president of OU's Muslim Student Association, also confirmed that up to seven people were either questioned or detained regarding the bombing death of Hinrichs, a 21-year-old engineering student.

Hinrichs died Saturday night after a bomb he was supposedly carrying exploded while he sat on a bench next to George Lynn Cross Hall, about 100 yards from Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, where 84,000 people were watching a college football game.

While the incident and its investigation have spurred plenty of rumor and speculation, authorities have consistently maintained that there is no evidence Hinrichs belonged to an extremist organization.

Carpo: //A muslim.
Why does this not surprise me? //

Why do even think it might be worth considering long enough
to be surprised?

His father Joel Henry Hinrichs II, of Colorado said #3
was so wrapped up in himself that he had no religion. (period).
Therefore, he could not have been a Muslim, which is a religion.

It totally fills me with righteous indignation how folks speculations
the month after an 'event' dictate the direction the crazies will
take 4 years later in their Conspiracy Theories.

Yep, on 1 Oct 2009 (if the Lord tarries) we will be discussing how
the Al-Qa'ida Qun'spiracy almost killed 84,000 people in Memorial
Stadium (Owen field), Norman, Ok on 01 Oct 2005 (ohhh, let me
start calling it just ten dash one (10/1).

About 4Pm a Joel Henry Hinrichs III blew himself to mush
(some pulled off the 3 buses is being analyzed for a DNA
match. Oklahoma is only 3.4 months behind in DNA analysis).
Later a Picture will be made of Norman Fire Department washing
off the buses.
Oh, the ID was made from part of the ID card of Joel Henry Hinrichs III
found near the minor explosion. BTW, there wasn't enough explosive
to kill anybody beyond 2 or 3 feet away. But clutched to his bosom,
it killed him (but didn't totally destroy his ID card).

Meanwhile, his roommate Fazal M. Cheema (Pakistan, a non-active Muslim)
was probably at the game, or partying with other poor students, maybe
even studying? About 11:30PM on 1 Oct 2005, the Police had surrounded
the apartment where Joel Henry Hinrichs III lives with Fazal M. Cheema.

Fazal M. Cheema came by about midnight. Apparently the police were
waiting for him. (I think they were also waiting for a warrant
to search the appartment). Fazal M. Cheema went to a nearby appartment.
Apparently the Police were not sure it was him and waited until
he exited to approach him.

The report above reads: //Minutes after the explosion,
police busted into a student's apartment and arrested four Muslim students//

Some is true, much is false.

A university of Oklahoma instructor from Egypt, Hossam Barakat, 37 tells
this tale:
Midnight at the end of 1 Oct 2005 Hossam Barakat was at the appartment of
<unknown> near the appartment of Fazal M. Cheema. Fazal M. Cheema knocked
on the door and stayed a few minutes. When he left police apprehended him
and kept him in custody all night (apparently he took a polygraph test
and provided all the information police, FBI, firearms/tobacco/alcohol,
OU police Department, Norman municipal police Department, Cleveland
county sherrif Dept, OKlahoma Highway Patorl, Homeland Security, etc
-- all the informaton they needed.)

"One of the men at the appartment was a professor from Algeria
who had his suitcases packed and was ready
to leave the country on an apirplane the following day, Barakat said"
-- 13 Oct 2005, Daily OKlahoman, page 1A.

"A University of OKlahoma instructor from Egypt said he and others
of foreign descent were handcuffed at
gunpoint and questioned after the OU bomb blast Oct. 1, but added
he is not bitter.: 13 Oct 2005,
-- 13 Oct 2005, Daily OKlahoman, page 1A

//"Salvador Hernandez, special agent in charge of the
FBI's Oklahoma City office, told a congressman Tuesday
the investigation into th eexplosion is continuing,
but so far it appears to be "an infividual act".//
--- 13 Oct 2005, Daily OKlahoman, page 81A

//"We heard someone said, 'Put your hands up! Put your
hands up!/ And someone looked from the window and seen
that CHeema God arrested, " he (Barakat) said.//
-- 13 Oct 2005, Daily OKlahoman, page 8A

//Because Cheema has a hearing imparment, he did not
respond immediately to the police order to stop.//
-- 13 Oct 2005, Daily OKlahoman, page 8A

// "That's why they got mad and started to yell
and flashed in his eyes and got guns," Barakat said.//
-- 13 Oct 2005, Daily OKlahoman, page 8A

About 15 minutes after Cheema was arrested, Barakat
started to leave but an officer pulled a gun and ordered
him back inside. From midnight until 4AM the folks were inside
the apartment considering themselves under house arrest.
At 4AM on Sunday, 2 Oct 2005 they were called by police.
They went out one at a time, were taken to the FBI Office
in Oklahoma (about 25-miles away). They spent the day into
the afternoon watching football games on TV with FBI.
The FBI agents ordered in chicken for lunch and pizza
for dinner. When one of the men had to 'go' they were accompandied
by an FBI agent. Finally an immigration agent came by to
check the status off each of them.

//About 10:30PM (2 Oct, Sunday) an FBI agent finall told them it
was all over and thanked them for their assistance. Barakat said
the FBI agents were polite and professiona throughout
the investigation, but he also said Norman Police were
"very aggressive, very mean."
-- 13 Oct 2005, Daily OKlahoman, page 8A

Back to the OP report:

The report above reads: //Minutes after the explosion,
police busted into a student's apartment and arrested four Muslim students//

lets see about 12 hours after the explosion, that would be 12*60 = 720 minutes
The 'police busted' is totally wrong. Nobody was
arrested. Here, let me state it better using MLM data:

Twelve hours after the explosion, police took four Muslim
students in for questioning by the FBI and imigration.
They were held in custody for 18 hours and released without
charges after cooperating with the FBI and imigration.

But i doubt if my paragraph will be inserted into the
false-alarm Conspiracy sites :(
