I voted yes they should be accountable, but I think that they already are held accountable for their decisions and that they do a good job.

The "I wanna puke" thread was just closed, and I think it fits into the "I have seen threads closed because of no other reason then the discussion was going against the moderator that started the thread" categoty.

Does it bother me? Not particularly. I've long since resigned myself to the fact that a moderator perk is to have the last word in a debate thread before closing it. Do I like it? No. Does it bother me? No.

John, that thread wouldn't have been closed if you didn't show up and tell everyone how to act. It was ME who started the tread, not a moderator.

 Oh c'mon now, look at the thread in question. It was going fine. There wasn't a need to close it.

But the mod who shut it down had not started it, but I was way wrong to blame you.

There is. In fact there is a three fold accountability.

    1. Moderators to Moderators

    2. Moderators to Administrators

    3. Moderators to the Webmaster/BB owner

If anyone has a problem with a moderator that you are unable to resolve person to person PM a BB Administrator. If you do not receive satisfaction PM the Webmaster. If you still are not satisfied after all this you can always request to have your BB membership account closed/removed. ;)

I once had a moderator on another board slander me on a thread I started. The topic was going very poorly for him when he decided to go this route. I privately addressed him and asked for an apology. He refused, so I privately appealed to the moderator's board. They refused to address him. So I then took it to the public thread itself asking for proof of his accusation towards me or an apology. He refused again and imediately closed the thread. A day later he totally erased the thread which was on it's fourth page. (Talk about getting rid of the evidence). His final reply as to why he stopped the thread before he erased it was..."some questions should not be asked and discussed by Christians and this was one of them"...I don't know what passage of scripture he got that one from. I did have one moderator privately support me on the matter, but he could not do anything about it besides pm the guy with his concerns.

    God Bless!

I was a moderator here on BB for about two years (I think it was about that long) before outside life got too busy and I had to quit.

The Moderators' Forum is a place where we are held accountable and our actions discussed (and you thought it was only a place where posters were discussed, right?). There is a strong sense of accountability to each other, and even to the public, among the moderators. We were responsible for holding up the name (character) of Christ in what we did.

Perfect? Not at all. Trying hard? Yes, probably always. Did we always agree with each other? Of course not.

The reason that criticisms about moderators are not allowed on the boards is simply because that sort of thread and subject is not what Baptist Board is about. One of the constant jobs of moderators is to make sure threads do not degenerate into hate-filled posts, or name-calling, etc. If you take a look at the number of people and posts here, you will realize that job takes enormous amounts of time. The idea of trying to control a thread of which the primary purpose is criticism, or which becomes that, is laughable. That would be an exercise in futility. And THAT is the reason many threads are closed.

But are the moderators held accountable? Oh yes, that is for sure.
