I prefer contemporary worship and I wear a goatee, but that's just because it looks so stunning on me...

    Is there a connection?

Hope so. My music library is feeling a little stale at the moment.

Anyone who objects to the smooch should read Song of Solomon. I haven't yet found anything in the New Testament that renders it invalid.

Me and my goatee. Let me see if the characterisations fit.

    modern worship - nope
worship that is characterized by rock music - hardly
exhibitionism - does that mean get naked?
other things in common with charismatic styles - no one has ever accused me of that

The goatee is probably as old, or older, than Christanity itself. If someone wants to cast a pharasaical judgement upon someone else because of the hair on their chin, let them do so publicly, so that others may see their unrighteousness.

I wear my facial hair in a van dyke... goatee is actually like Shaggy from Scooby-Doo... and yes, I like Modern Worship styles for the most part. Does this mean that I lean exclusively to that and love every song? No. As a matter of fact, careful examination of my church bulletin archives will show we maintain, through the direction of the Holy Spirit, a pretty blended style of worship.

The real reason I wear a van dyke at all has nothing to do with anything but the fact that I have a double chin and try to hide it. I am fat, after all. Facial hair or not, I would still like some modern worship. So is there a direct correllation? Maybe, but not on this fat guy's face.

I think a goatee only becomes a sign of modern worship or anything else when it is in deliberate opposition to authority.

I know when someone sets a standard and says, "Facial hair is unscriptural" then you will naturally get those who are trying to buck the "system" deliberately growing beards and goatess just to antagonise.

Then you get some who just look good with a beard, like me. And others who like kissing beards...

I would say in this scenario it is the one setting the standard that is just trying to antagonize with unbiblical standards.

Well, since there's no "biblical standard" in regards to facial hair, there's nothing to antagonize.

If I looked up pictures of the great Baptist (and other Christian) preachers and speakers down through the ages, I would come up with no shortage of them who have had various types of facial hair, including goatees, lamb chops, moustaches-only, beards w/o the moustache, handlebars, fu manchus, and the list goes on...

[IMG] That is true. I guess what I mean is when a standard, rightly or wrongly is set up, some will deliberately do that which is contrary. I do not think there is a chance of me making sense this evening. I had better go.

Just noticed I wrote "goatess", meant goatee of course.

Plenty of Goatees at my church, No CCM.

I'm clean shaven, usually, except for the varying lengths of sideburns. I call my clean shaven face and my dark suit and red tie on Sunday "Christian Camoflage" Has nothing to do with where my heart really Is. This sunday I'll probably wear jeans, I am cooking for a dinner on the grounds from 5AM on.

Can't say I buy the Goatee/Contemporary music connection. Now if we start talking about Back Hair and Bluegrass, I'll think about getting on board! :D

Oh, and if your church isn't doing "Modern Worship", you had better start, its why God made you.

Oh man! that's too funny. Now my poor preacher son doesn't have enough hair on his face to have one of those beards. Poor boy can't even get one of those goatees to spout fully. I hope that doesn't speak to his effectiveness in the pulpit -- he's got a revival coming up.

You can only oppose authority if the authority exists. No one who doesn't pay me to wear a gas mask has the authority to mandate my facial hair style.

What about Paul Sr.'s facial hair below? I don't know what it's called but it's neat. Maybe it's just a long mustache. My husband alternates between this, a goatee, or a short beard, and always has a mustache. He knows I love facial hair so he usually has something. And he likes all kinds of music. ;)
