Thanks Walls, God may or may not bring each of us to the same point as He has you. Where ever each person is does not make them more or less obedient or spiritual, and I think we should remind ourselves of that from time to time. The very best we can ask from each other and I think God asks from us is to follow our convictions He has given each of us indivdually. As long as we are seeking to please God in our own personal relationships with Him then we'll be alright, and obedient.

    3. Socks for women? (Afterall guys wear them too)

I don't understand why socks would be a problem. Maybe I am not up to date on this

Thankful expressed perplexity at how socks can be a problem when it comes to a woman's modesty, so I may be able to give some insight here from a man's point of view.

Most women are not aware of this, but many men are very attracted to a woman's feet. They find them to be very erotic and sexy, and most women are apparently oblivious to this. Therefore, whether a woman covers her feet with socks or not may have a bearing on how she presents herself in modesty. She may have taken great strides to present herself with great care, only to have her feet in a pair of sandals that can really turn a man on and cause him to stumble.

So many women may need to consider how their feet are presented, too, in their consideration of modesty. However, there are (believe it or not) men who are excited by women who wear socks! In some cases, a woman cannot win, either way

Mozier... the point being made was that 'socks' are men's clothing ??? and women shouldn't wear that as pertaineth to a man ???

I'm sorry! My very pretty feet are very cold! LOL Give me my socks!

Thank you, Mozier. It is difficult to think that socks draw attention to a woman's feet in a way that would tempt, excite, or cause a man to stumble.

When I do wear socks, I like for the colors to match the blouses or shirts that I am wearing.
I don't think bright pink, baby blue, yellow, green are colors of socks that men would wear; therefore I do not consider them men's socks.

    Mozier,

It is funny that you should bring up the feet. When I was growing up, I was always taught that open toed high heels was something only floozies (sp) wore. Not only does a harlot (prostitute) advertise with her body, gestures, smell, but with her exposed painted toes!

Just wanted to add, that my parents and grandparents, which taught this, don't believe you have to wear dresses all the time and have no problem wearing swimsuits around, even when not swimming. It was something that was strictly wore at that time by soliciting women.

Isn't it odd how we perceive things? I usually paint my toenails to match my fingernails and have never considered myself advertising my body for sale.

There was a prostitute in our town in Ct. that wore flip flops year round. She painted her eye lids up to her eyebrows in very vivid colors and she painted her toe tops. The whole tops! It was a sight. (Ever seen that woman on Drew Carey? She dresses almost clown like?? Imagine that make-up)

I don't think polished toe nails are associated with prostitution any longer. In the bible Judah assumed the woman (actually his daughtre in law) was a prostitute becasue she was all covered up. Today we think thye are if they aren't all covered up. It just shows times and customs change, and we have to make sure we change with them or we might accuse someone of something not true. In our grandparents time gay meant happy, we all know it doesn't now.

That was over 30 years ago. I even had a female cousin whose middle name was Gay, she had a very lovely name, but because of association she changed her name to something else once she was an adult.

It is amazing how things change over time, but just as our convictions are individual we must also determine what changes are good and which ones are bad.

I had a sweet friend in high school whose name was Gay B. She'd be in her 50's now. Isn't it sad how the world has dirtied so much.

This discussion really has made me think. Dirty minds .... or dirty names... dirty fingernail color, etc. If man's mind were on godly things and scripture... how little would the rest of this matter! A mind which yields to lust will lust over an elbow, long eyelashes, toeless shoes, ankles, shiny hair. A mind set on God and HIS word will not easily notice those things and turn away from temptation.

    Make sense?

    Yes it makes sence Diane.
You know as long as we have dressed modestly, how much responsability are we to have over a man who lusts?
What about men who are attracted to eyes? Nice hair? Blonde hair? Brown hair? What about men who like to look at hands, who can for some odd reason lust when they look at your hands? There are men who lust aftr tall women, short women, believe it or not, but men who lust after a woman the more clothing she wears, theres more to imagine they say.
Our responsability can only go so far. We can not be responsable for every odd thing a man might lust over. Look at islamic women in an effort to be modestly dressed they must be completely covered, and bow thier heads so men can't see their eyes and lust. The effort to be godly can easily cross over to legalisom, which we must be as carful about as we are on modesty. Legalism can be a dangerous enemy for the christian, theres a fine line between it and being godly.
I don't think any of us are going to have a problem with not being modest at all.
