    WASHINGTON - President Obama and congressional Democratic leaders agreed Tuesday to bypass a conference committee and keep negotiations to reconcile the Senate and House health care reform bills a closed-door affair.

    They concluded that the House will work off the Senate's version, amend it and send it back to the Senate for final passage, according to a House leadership aide, speaking on condition of anonymity in order to discuss the private meeting.

    They are doing that because they know a Conference Committee can be difficult to hammer out an agreement even with Democrat majorities in both houses. Besides, a Conference Committee would include Republicans, which the Democrats gave up on for this bill last year. It would only take one Senator changing his or her vote to kill this whole thing.

    The way this final version is being handled puts the old politics in smoke filled rooms of Mayor Daily to shame.

    They are desperately afraid of the American public knowing what they are doing.

    CSpan can verify that for us, since they won't let them televise their back room plotting.
