Umm, because the white people are in charge of the system just as they were back in the 60s when the effects of Jim Crow was brought to the forefront by Bloody Sunday and the Edmund Pettus Bridge.

Nobody has asked for the old, rich white folks to "take care of them". They've asked that the folks with a sense of humanity and common decency address the bias in the system being championed by the old, rich white men.

It's very hard to understand when it's not the LAW that's causing the policing issues.

Bunch of bovine skeptology intended for a white system that caters to white people. That might work if you're trying to change the schoolboard. It won't work with the police departments.

You're offering the same old excuse to do nothing. That's not a solution. The only thing that will stop systemic racism in policing is a systemic overhaul of the entire system where there are universal checks and balances. Because unfortunately, the good ole boy networks and this wall of blue can't be trusted to do what's right.
The hippies did something because they acknowledged there was a problem.

Don't pay any attention to him. He's as white as snow and cares nothing for blacks. His fake protestations are nothing more than a tool of his trade. The only reason he's here.

Already began doing exactly this. Thanks for backing up what is the obvious, and most proper solution to correct the problem. Shalom, Judith!

    (bold - my choice)

I have an ideal how he could really make an impact!!!

Suppose - in a game his team is 30 points ahead, so as the ball is hiked to him- he holds the ball and then hands it off to an opposing player - who then runs it in for a touchdown!
When asked why he did that - he would simply say "there's a problem;"

What better way to help someone who is way down!

Wait - this is even better - the other team is only down by 3 points - with only 30 seconds left on the clock and then hands it off to an opposing player - who then runs it in for a touchdown!.

Kappy could do that but then he never can score anyways.

Yeah, and there are other ways to pressure the NFL, though you two are talking about the most efficient one, which is to go after the advertisers. Stay out of the stadium, ask for refunds of your season tickets, don't go to nfl.com and if you do, don't order the merchandise. Some are finally catching the clue:

    http://detroit.cbslocal.com/2016/09/20/are-athlete-national-anthem-protests-costing-nfl-viewership/

This isn't about the first amendment, since they can't even celebrate a TD without a penalty, it's about an NFL commissioner that is driving the NFL into the ground with his bad leadership. Goodall has said these "protests" - which are really just spit-in-America's-face antics, are fine by him but he needs to be shown otherwise.

Yeah, that's right. We can't make a change because tha Man is keepin' us down.

We have blacks and hispanics as congresspeople across the nation. Keep electing more.

WE'RE the folks with a "sense of decency." And the only way to address the bias in the system is to change the system.

Sure it is. The laws on the books are the ones that are used to determine whether the police should be investigated and/or prosecuted. If we want more control over the police, then we need laws to provide oversight of them.

In the next paragraph, you accuse me of offering the same old excuse to do nothing--after you just offered the same old excuse to do nothing.

Am I asking too much of you, Zaac? Would you rather complain on message boards than actually WORK at a solution?

And yet, just two paragraphs previously said we should change the system. Then I said one of the ways to do that is to get into the system.

At the beginning, I said that we need to stop waiting for someone to do it for us; and you answered that the system is dominated. Here again you tell us what should be done; but you don't say HOW.

I've told you HOW. Now it's up to you, us, Koepernick, et al, to DO. And it ain't taking a knee and talking about donating so someone else could maybe do it; it's standing up, getting out, and DOING.

Or we're nothing more than sniveling, whiny, un-thankful brats that don't realize God could have placed us in a country where we wouldn't have the freedoms and ability to change the system.

And what did those sit-ins and protests accomplish? It wasn't until they changed the laws, and introduced new laws, that we saw change.

YOU acknowledge there's a problem. What are YOU doing about it? Besides demeaning and denigrating faceless people on the internet?
