    All of my LDS friends (I have a number) use the KJV since its language is so ambiguous and terms so archaic that they are "interpreted" by the standard Mormon works.

    We simplify such passages and vocabulary in our preaching and witnessing automatically. We don't want to confuse; we want folks to understand.

    They LOVE that the average LDS member doesn't understand what they are reading in the KJV (like an Ethiopian eunuch) and when they ask "How can I except someone help me?", the LDS "elders" are only too happy to help.

    No fault of the KJV. My anger is always focused at the LDS cult.

    The only differences I have found is that some of the passages are capitalized to further reinforce the beliefs of the Mormons vs. other religions. I know they sent the Book of Mormon along with the KJV I requested.

    BTW, after taking the time to research the copyright in perpetuity by the English Crown of the KJV, I have found that it seems only the LDS Church has taken the time to get permission from the Crown to publish the KJV in America.

    I am hoping that I don't have all the facts.

    Thats interesting....

    The problem that I have with the KJV copyright not being honored is that anyone can change the KJV and call it the KJV. No matter which side of the bible issue fence we stand on this should concern all of us.

    When you find out something else Hank please post it or PM me.

    Thanks

    You can start here:

    Wikipedia also has a blurb on KJVOism:

    I have one of those. It is in fact referred to as a "quad" or just "scriptures" but the latter (no pun intended) term also applies to the packaging that includes the KJV Bible in one binding, and the BOM, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price in another. I must say though, my quad is one of the best made "bibles" (use that term loosely) I have ever owned but it definitely wasn't inexpensive. It is personalized for me with my name on the cover as I had received it as a gift from my wife when we were dating.

    As far as I can tell, the text of the LDS KJV is actual KJV and no different than what I have in my regular KJV bible.

    I am *very* acquainted with the LDS Church, but I'll just leave it at that. ;) For what it's worth, it's about the most unread book in the accepted LDS scriptural array.

    One note on this... if you order a free one, you usually get it hand delivered by LDS Missionaries.

    Strictly for curiosity sake;
    can anybody show me in the "Inspired Version" where the LDS have changed the KJB?

    In His service;

    The Mormons publish an edition of the KJV
    with "explanatory notes and cross references to the standard works of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints." The standard works cited
    include the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price, History of the Church by Joseph Smith, and Joseph Smith's Translation. It is noted that short excerpts are provided from Smith's "Inspired Version" in the footnotes with longer excerpts in the appendix.

    I have a copy of Smith's INSPIRED VERSION,
    a corrected edition printed in March, 1966.
    Joseph Smith made many changes in the KJV, especially making many additions.

    For example, he started Genesis 1 as follows:
    1"And it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Behold, I reveal unto you concerning this heaven and this earth; write the words which I speak."
    2 "I am the Beginning and the End; the Almighty God. By mine Only Begotten I created these things."
    3 "Yea, in the beginning I created the heaven,
    and the earth upon which thou standest."

    He started Genesis 3 as follows:
    1 "And I, the Lord God, spake unto Moses, saying, That Satan whom thou hast commanded in the name of mine Only Begotten, is the same which was from the beginning;"

    Joseph Smith started John 1 as follows:
    1 "In the beginning was the gospel preached through the Son. And the gospel was the word, and the word was with the Son, and the Son was with God, and the Son was of God."

    Logos is correct. As Hank has pointed out, the LDS prints its KJV under the British copyright, which means the church can't change the text. However, the LDS can insert its "notes" that inject the extracanonical books recognized by the LDS.

    They also use the process of emphasising in capitalization verses that SEEM to support their doctrine that Joseph Smith, et al, were prophets, the doctrine that men evolve into God, etc.
