He's using his predecessor's players. A new coach has to have time to recruit and bring in his players. That's why a new coach is generally given at least five years to turn things around.

That's a legitimate excuse for conference or major non-conference games.

There is no set of players at Bama that should lose to ULM, period. Ever.

It's not like he's playing with a ragtag bunch incapable of beating anyone. They've played well in the SEC, yet they lose to ULM??

    That's just unacceptable.

That would be Bama. While Nick Saban is the most overrated coach, Houston Nutt, while not the worst coach (that would be Ed Orgeron), is not even close to the level of Nick Saban. He's not the most overrated, though, because no one really expects much from him.

What makes Houston Nutt look even worst is that ULM beat Alabama but Nutt's team didn't.

Exactly. ULM didn't have Darren McFadden, Felix Jones, and Peyton Hillis, either.

I guess I am not sure how a coach who has a National title can be considered "overrated" ?

Not to mention the fact that Arkansas would take Saban in a heartbeat.

I don't want Saban. He strikes me as an egomaniac, plus he's waaaaaaaay too expensive.

How is he overrated? Obviously you haven't heard many Bama fans. Everyone there seemed to think he was going to part the Red Sea, resurrect Bear Bryant, and go 12-0 in his first year.

A college football coach with an ego??? Surely you jest. :saint:

While you may not want him and he may be way too expensive, Arkansas would jump at the chance to have him on their sidelines.

Bama fans think that about ANY coach they bring in.

I still fail to see how a coach in his first year with a program, who has won a National Championship, can be considered overrated? In 3 years if things have not changed at Bama, then you can call him overrated.

Personally, i'm still laughing about this game...who would of thunk it about the artist formallly known as the NLU Indians would have pulled that one out! Them beating Bama is funny...them beating a Saban coached Bama is hillarious!
Saban does have a national title, it was in his 4th season at LSU which began with an 8-4 record and on the upswing...so him taking over at LSU is way different than taking over Bama which is at one of the lowest points EVER.

I still don't think he needs to worry about it, neither does Bama since he probably won't stick around long enough to really make much of a difference any way.

I think some of you are allowing your loyalities to color your thinking here. Saban has had success at Toledo, Mich St and LSU. He has a National Title and 2 SEC titles. I still fail to see how he is overrated? Sure this season has been a disappointment at Bama, but it is his first year.

If you don't like him as a coach for whatever reason that is completely fine, but just admit why instead of calling him overrated.
