So what can we do to move the conversation along around here?

Seriously, I wondered about that this morning as I perused the sections. Pretty much every thread ends up being some like this:

Poster #1: States some, links something, cuts and pastes something
    Poster #2: You're an idiot
Poster #1: No you're an idiot
Poster #3: No you're an idiot
Poster #1: No you're an idiot
Poster #2: No you're an idiot
Poster #1: No you're an idiot
Poster #3: No you're an idiot
Poster #1: No you're an idiot
Poster #4: Random plea for civility, says something about Jesus
Poster #1: No you're an idiot
Poster #3: No you're an idiot
Poster #1: No you're an idiot
Poster #2: No you're an idiot
Poster #1: No you're an idiot
Poster #3: No you're an idiot
Poster #5: Incorrect use of the strawman fallacy
Poster #2: No you're an idiot
Poster #1: No you're an idiot
Poster #3: No you're an idiot
Poster #1: No you're an idiot
Poster #2: No you're an idiot

And that stuff just gets old.

Can we move along to a higher place in our conversations? Please:saint:

    You're an idiot

    :D

Seriously, I do agree with you. The pattern needs to be broken, but unless those who perpetuate decide to do so it won't happen.

    Rots o' ruck!!!!

In addition to what you said, I've noticed is that too often many DO NOT RESPOND to what was actually said, but what is "read into" a comment!!!!

Or, just as prevalent, try to derail the thread if it's something the "answerer" doesn't like, but can't logically refute.

I know that I've been guilty of some of these boners at times, but there are a few that specialize in these tactics.:BangHead:

    Maybe because:

    1. The topic in the IP is to broad.
    2. The IP does not compute.
    3. The IP does not consider unintended consequences of the proposal.
    4. The purpose of the IP is to bad-mouth a person or idea without supporting argument or suggesting a solution.

I've gotten tired of a lot of these threads lately due to

#1 (The biggie imo) responses like this quote..... are either clueless...
(BW: what is "IP"? To me it means 'internet protocol' and, if my understanding is correct of its meaning, then your response is either a futile attempt of juvenitle 'cuteness' or 'smart-alelikness' or ignorance.)

#2 some topics like this are an inducement to posters, who, like me, get pizzed at too much non-sense, and eventually are either tempted or do succumb to calling others names or disparaging them, which is neither good for civil conversation nor becoming to Christ-like-ness or Christ-mind-ness.

#3 the relativaty of the OP to the importance and weight of what is actually occurring and news: Some OP's are opinion pieces in connection to information w/o links....... this fries me as I'm not gifted with mind reading abilities.

For instance.... there's been no significant news reported in this section of the BB for about 2 weeks.

Yet, during this time there's been sing of increasing hostilities between Syria and Israel: talk in DC about moving workers 401-k plans into government controlled or regulated annunities (confiscation of private retirement funds?): miracles still occurring in Haiti as live come forth from the rubble. China's increasing concern over US policy and debt. Escalation in Iran... for which there is a post on this board. A finacial meeting taking place down under over the mess of the global econonmy.

I get much of the news they don't report on MSM off this site:
    http://thepowerhour.com/news.htm

Several posters post consistency in the personality of agent provacateurs than in the real interest of delivering factual information or exchanging ideas of perception and viewpoint. It takes a birds brain of intellect for me and for others to label people 'connies' 'libbies' or to broadly paint a group of people with a brush mean for a specific poster or a couple of posters.... when the correct use of the 'quote' command or the '+' command at the rt bottom of the post would clearly identify poster and content and save one's brethren the trouble of backtracking to see what the fuss is alll about. But, then, Christians who are considerate of other reader's and the flow of communication aren't evenly considerate nor interested in being understood as much as tooting their own horn (like I'm doing right now).

BTW, preachingin jesus, imo, this post was relevant to the health of this board and the content of the threads and posts considering the recent deterioration of both. I don't always agree or have a response to you but you got me on this one.

Think I'll log out now..... and continue my 'lurking'. lol:laugh: :wavey:

So, answer according to which ever fits your interpretation.

Too broad - ask for more detailed/narrower OP thoughts
Does not compute - ask for clarification or ignore
Unintended consequences - point out same in a rational manner
Purpose to bad-mouth - (You mean like most of threads started by one who is prolific with this tactic?) Best to ignore, but I know it's hard to ignore sheer (pick your fav hangup - idiocy, juvenile-ness, hatred, stupidity, ___ Derangement Syndrome, etc., etc.)

    Good points though!!

I'd have to agree with many of the comments. In fact, it's basically why I've taken a breather from the BB for months now, tho' I still do occasionally lurk :tongue3: and toss in my 2c worth on occasion. Do miss a good chin wag, but hard to be civil with all the tongue-lashings, name callings, etc. going on. Had to make a concerted decision to stop contributing to same. Nice to see some familiar faces still around on the board!
