Yes, it would be a more peaceful world and leaning towards a utopia if we could change all the laws of the land to conform to God's Law, but that isn't what the Bible says is going to happen as evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse.

What we had best be doing is winning all we can to the Lord !:godisgood:

No I wish it was wasn't. But, I realize that a woman can abort in her own home, or a back alley. I really don't want the goverment to place women who don't agree with me in prison. I still wonder if we don't become ensouled until after birth. Listen.....I hope a fetus has a soul, if they do, i've got three kids waiting for me in heaven, my wife suffered three miscarriages. I have prayed about this many times....I haven't gotten my answer yet. I'm glad you are certain about this....I am not....yet. Pray for me.

I don't know, Tom. I've been giving this a lot of thought lately. Right now we do have legal ways to fight abortion. (Although it seems we don't utilize them enough.) We still have the freedom to vote pro-life and write letters to our political leaders, sign petitions, etc. As Jim said, we can counsel and live right, and we can try to win others to Christ.

I think the time is soon coming, though, when we will have to choose between God's law or man's, not just with abortion, but with our elderly, disabled, and others. The Terri Schiavo case is one example I can think of where people defied the law and tried to bring her food or drink while she slowly starved to death.

It's easy for me to think about civil disobedience, but it would be very difficult to practice it, especially if it meant losing one's job or being put in jail.

To make headway against abortion it's time to stop looking at the Republican party as the savior, or the Democratic party for that matter. Christians need to show the Republican party that they will no longer vote for them just because they mouth the correct words against abortion and then do very little about it. I think the Republican party is playing Christian evangelicals for fools. Why should they ever end legal abortion? Simply playing it as they have in the past will assure the evangelical Christian vote. This farce has to stop now if any real changes are to be made.

I just watched a movie yesterday where a character in the movie said that a soul doesn't enter a baby until the baby is born. This is what I used to believe (or shortly before birth) and many people who are "spiritual" but who are not Christians believe. Naturally, I was pro-choice.

Christians should be aware that many have this view. (Just to clarify, I am pro-life now).

There are many biblical passages that give evidence that a child is a person with a soul: John the Baptist in the womb recognizing Jesus in Mary's womb by the power of the Holy Spirit and Ps. 139. Tim probably can give you others.

I think your 3 children are in heaven.

By God's laws for man? Or as christians does the world's law trump God's?

    God defines what is murder.
We are to obay God, not man.

We've seen it here on the BB as proof.
Tim, instead of reposting your whole message I'll just say I agree with it, all of it.

I don't think civil disobedience is for a Christian unless they are being forced to do something against God's word.

God clearly tells us to obey our rulers, and when this was written, the Christians were living in a pagan society much worse than ours. They had to obey rulers who thought they were gods and who worshipped other gods. The Chrisitans were also living in a culture with much more debauchery than ours (though I think we are heading in that direction).

Nowhere in the Bible do we see the early believers trying to change the culture except through the preaching of the gospel.

We are also told to live in peace as far as it is possible.

If it hadn't been for civil disobedience the Blacks would still be second class citizens without any rights.

There was civil disobedience prior to the US war for independence from England. They dumped tea in the Bay in revolt against the taxes imposed.

I don't think the Bible ever intended us to sit idly by and watch the world go by. Sometimes we must take a stand. That is what war is all about.

    Cheers,

    Jim

This doesn't mean that these things were necessarily right. I am all for what these things produced, but that doesn't mean the ends justify the means. Another point: Not all actions that brought these ends about were civil disobedience.

No one is advocating "sitting idly by." However, civil disobedience goes against God's word telling us to obey the rules.

I disagree. The Bible does not speak about bowing to a government on all matters. I recall Old Testament saints standing up to governments. It almost cost their lives, but stand up they did.

The Bible does not teach passivism.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Here we go again. People putting words into my mouth!

Where did I ever endorse passivism? I'm the last person to endorse that!

So what do you do with these?
Do we obey them except when we deem there are exceptions based on our own values and opinions?

    1) Because we don't see the unborn as human, and
    2) Even if we did, we have forgotten the commandment to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Q: If you call the dog's tail a "leg," how many legs does it have?

    Jim1999: Five.

God: Four. It doesn't matter what you call the tail, it's still a tail.

When I consider the abortion issue I look back to the actions of fine Christian leaders and statemen like William Wilberforce and how they acted in response to a similiar moral plague in their society.

I think you're being dramatic at points. I don't know who is torturing children. I do agree that we must continue to push forward to irradicate this despicable practice. I also concur, as many would around here, that abortion is an abomination before God.

I don't know what kind of civil disobedience we could foist upon our society nor understand the (perhaps) indirect point here. There is no reason Christians (or anyone) should ever contemplate seriously taking up arms and injuring or harming those who participate in this practice. It isn't the actions of a redeemed people to take up arms, imho, to accomplish a "moral" good. :)

What's dramatic is when little unborn babies get stabbed in the head and have their brains sucked out during patial-birth abortion. If this were happening the day after birth, we would be reacting much differently as a nation. Since it's happening the month(s) before birth, it's permitted.

I do not condone killing abortion doctors or physically harming those who help perform abortions. But what happens to a pharmacist who doesn't want to dispense the "morning after" pill? When Obama's pro-abortion agenda succeeds in closing hospitals that refuse to do abortions, what happens to the medical personnel who need jobs and can only get them in places that are pro-abortion?

I believe Christians will face this predictament eventually if Obama's administration gets their way. If we don't consider it now, it will take us unaware.

2Jo 1:10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: (much less vote for)

11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

Like the "Evilutionist", who believes "MOTHER EARTH" can give birth to life without a "FATHER" involved,

People believe humans can live without the spirit of life from God in them,

But to have life, "BODY/SOUL" must be united as "ONE".

You'd think they would learn that from death, but then they're the only ones "professing themselves to be wise".

To my knowledge partial birth abortion is now illegal. I thought a bill was passed and signed by President GW Bush to accomplish that. Am I wrong?
