Murtha must testify in defamation case

    By KIMBERLY HEFLING, Associated

WASHINGTON - A federal judge refused Friday to dismiss a defamation case against Rep. John P. Murtha and ordered the Pennsylvania Democrat to give a sworn deposition about his comments alleging "cold-blooded murder and war crimes" by unnamed soldiers in connection with Iraqi civilian deaths.

A Marine Corps sergeant is suing the 18-term congressman for making the charge, which the soldier claims is false. Murtha, who opposes the Iraq war, made the comment during a May, 2006 Capitol Hill news conference in which he predicted that a Pentagon war crimes investigation will show Marines killed dozens of innocent Iraqi civilians in Haditha in 2005.

Good. Should the honorable Marine win this case maybe those who continue to give aid and comfort to the enemy will begin to stop and think before they open their mouth.

This lawsuit is as nonsensical as Congressman Murtha's accusation is.

The judge did not agree with you.

I kinda agree. I don't think soldiers should be suing congressmen, especially since democrat politicians never suffer from being found guilty of any crime.

So what? There have been plenty of times that a judge has not agreed with you.

I am glad he has the freedom to say what he did. The soldiers he was talking about are the ones that make sure we keep that freedom. I also agree that he should put his money were his mouth is and prove what he said.

As a member of the military, I thought the incessant commentary by Rep Murtha was completely uncalled for and was slanderous especially since these Marines had not faced their courts martial.

And in the end, the entire Haditha situation turned out to be a lie.
