What type of music is at your church? If you could change anything about the music, what would that be?

    Wow...since we do it a ll, I don't guess I should vote! :tongue3:

    We do...

-a contemporary service (I would call it "adult contemporary" in style)
-a traditional service (mainly traditional, with a bit of blend)
-a blended service (our evening service...it is a smorgasbord: we might have one of our youth praise bands play, traditional hymns, a bluegrass band, any choir or ensemble, you name it.)
-a very contemporary service (our students on Wednesday nights; songs of a Crowder/Hillsong nature; mixed with arrangements of a hymn or two, and some ancient songs...along with drama, media, etc. More cutting-edge than the rest).

I honestly can't think of something I'd do differently. I think our church's worship is very authentic and God-focused. And I'm so proud of our church in this area--we've never tried to reach unanimity in taste, just unanimity in purpose.

We struggle. OUr church has been southern gospel in style forever, and now we have tried to incorporate just a little contemporary. Some like it, some hate it. Now we have a mess. Those that like it are all for blended, those that hate it want no part of it. :(

Blended at our Church. I am pretty satisfied with the music at Church.

We are a traditional church with hints of bluegrass and SGM. I'm not a fan of SGM and after having a "Christian" bluegrass group come and play for an evening service, I'm not liking that very much either.

We do some of the older choruses, but I don't think anyone would consider us as having a blended service.

If I could change anything, it would be the tempo of our hymns. We sing alot in slo-mo.

We generally have contemporary music in our church. Although I do like it, I do miss the traditional music from time to time.

The best of both worlds, having comtemporary and traditional would be nice, but I would be afraid that the same thing would happen as what Tater described.

This is bound to offend some...but isn't it a shame that worship has become all about what style of music we like and very little about what is God-honoring and worshipping God?

    Agreed.

And I'm guilty as many...we try to make the words "music" and "worship" be synonymous...when they aren't necessarily.

My church is "Heavenly Highway" traditional. I personally would prefer a blended service, but I won't force the issue because I know it's just my preference.

Agreed... I believe Traditional music was rejected in some Churches back when Traditional was contemporary. Now we have people who believe it is all God will hear.

    Blended.

We have two Sunday morning services.

The first one is very traditional (along with the creeds, choir in robes, etc.) and the music is traditional as well with hymnals only. The second service is more contemporary with blended music.

It comes from the "Heavenly Highway Hymnal"--a traditional/southern gospel type hymnal popular in some rural areas.

Blended... I love it. It should be that way, to my mind.

"A Mighty Fortress" is wonderful, so is "Strong Tower."

It is a shame that some make it about the music. Worship is more than a song.

"Anything I put before my God is an idol I worship.
Anything I want with all my heart is an idol I worship.
Anything I can't stop thinking of is an idol I worship.
Anything that I give all my love is an idol I worship.
We mustn't worship something that's not even worth it...
Clear the stage, make some space for the One who deserves it."

We have a traditional service at 8:15 and contemporary services at 9:30 and 11:00. Unfortunately, the Singles Department meets for Sunday School only at 11:00, so I am unable to attend the traditional service, as I absolutely loathe the contemporary music.

I don't get it, you said traditional was at 8:15. Why can't you go?

Because there would be almost two hours between the time the traditional service ends and my Singles Sunday School class begins.
