Just curious, how do you define a musical snob?
I'll give you my definition soon.
Someone who requires sophistication and technical perfection before he can enjoy music.
Same as any kind of snob: "My music is treasure; any other kind is trash."
I would say a musical snob is someone that not only dislikes folk-type music, but they dislike it precisely because common folks create it.
It is NOT someone that has refined musical tastes and therefore finds folk music uninteresting.
I happen to like particular selections of all genres except for heavy metal (yes, believe or not, I've even heard some RAP that I like), and I also dislike certain selections of all genres.
I have been called a musical snob, because I will not play with people who do not care about how their music sounds enough to practice their instrument.
To me, a musical snob would be one who acts like that their own preferences are the measure that everything else must be measured.
Not that there are any like THAT around here...
I think we've all met one or been one at one time or another, including on this very board. A snob is a person who rolls his eyes whenever he hears or has to perform something he doesn't personally like, no matter how much another person might feel about it.
musical snob could be one... where they don't appreciate all music.
i don't like any music from U2 - can't stand their music -- BUT. but i do say that bono is very musically talented in voice and in instruments and the band is as well. U2 is a very good band..
it's just not my preference is all. i don't go around saying U2 sucks. cause they don't.
people have called me a musical snob because i don't like country music..
but i've listened to some country music now - and i do like it..
though not all of it. can't say i'd buy any country music.
it is good music.
i can appreciate it. just not my preference.
There are different sorts of musical snobs.
There are those that only prefer "sophistacted" music.
There are those that only prefer "down-home" music.
There are those that only prefer music that is popular.
There are those that only prefer music that is NOT popular.
There are those that only prefer music that is arranged certain ways.
There are those that only prefer music that is meditative.
There are those that only prefer music that is loud and raucous.
Basically, in my opinion, musical snobs are people who are slaves to their preferences, whatever they may be.
I guess I'm a musical snob because I can only take a few Southern Gospel songs before it gets old.
Someone who looks down on others because of their taste (or lack thereof). Some of the greatest musical snobs I know are those who make fun of those who like Classical music.
I would classify a "musical snob" as someone who thinks not only that their taste in music is the only acceptable one, but that anyone who thinks differently must be musically challenged.
In my snobby opinion if you don't like my style of music you need to get a life!
I think a good definition of a snob is 'somebody I don't like.'
Hmm ... maybe they think their talent is so far advanced that they're too good to sing in the church choir. Though they do sign up for special music.
The people who think "______" music is the only type that is from God, and anything else is at least inferior or at worst from Satan. The same ones who fight to keep anything that isn't "their" style out of the church.
