If a muslim man who has four wives and has established families with each one converts to Christianity what should he do with his many wivesand families?

Try to win them to the Lord. Many OT righteous characters with multi wives / families. I have struggled in finding polygamy outlawed in the Bible.

    Let me rephrase it.

What should we tell the muslim man to do the 3 extra wives?

Love them the way Christ loves the church. Divorcing them without grounds would be committing another sin. Two wrongs don't make a right.

    Take some Tylenol...

With that many women, he'd have to have a headache...:tonofbricks:

I would say, divorce would not be an option, but he would not be qualified ot be a pastor.

What did Solomon do with all his? He kept them of course!

Same goes here with the qualifier that Tim gave: that the man would be unqualified to be a pastor. (like he could even find the time if he wanted too! :D )

tinytim, your a brave man! When the ladies hear that...

Seriously, I do believe Paul said that you should remain the way you are after conversion. It would seem to disqualify such a one for church office though.

I read (don't remember the source) of a missonary that faced this. He served as the sole elder of Church until God raised up biblically qualified men.

Now that is love for the brethren!

    keep them. love them.
but he should be made to understand he cannot ADD anymore.
That last one is moot, probably, because Muslims are allowed only four wives from what I understand.

It's not, overall. Polygyny specifically doesn't seem to be. Polyandry, on the other hand, is prohibited in the Bible.

Big problem is when they go to church.
How do you explain to the young 'uns that all those women are his wives, and all those kids are his ?

Does this mean that the same would go for a polygamous mormon who gets saved?

Also, would we really tell them to keep the wives, after all, they cannot be the legal wives in America. There can only be one legal wife. So is it different since they are only wives by their former religion?

What do you suggest we do then ?

this really is a serious question, because these things happen, you know.
here we are telling people about the sanctity of marriage and how God instituted it, and now we're going to break up five people who have known each other intimately for some time, regarded each other as family, regarded their children as everyone's children, lived and ate together under one roof, and now, all of a sudden, they need to break up.

I mean, sure, we can always say that Christ said He came to bring a sword and all that, but what do you propose ?

It would have to as distasteful as we may find it.

The wives entered into a marriage with expectations of support, love and a father for their children. Just because one of the parties has figured out that they aren't living right, doesn't mean they don't still have to fulfill the promises made to their spouses. The only way out in this case, would be for one or more the wives to say nada, not staying married to you, because I don't like your new found God. (believers aren't bound a marriage when the unbeliever departs)

We can't use God's best plan as a way of "getting out of" obligations we have mistakenly made. Polygamy was sin, the sin is taken care of as far as God is concerned(the spiritual part). The earthly consequences still have to be dealt with. An honest man should have no problem continuing to support the "extra" wives and all the combined children and probably would be relieved that God expects him to do no less.

I have no ideas, I suppose what has been suggested would be best. I was just thinking outloud...or...typing my thoughts.

I definitely see your points. I wonder how many guys would point at him as say, "thats not fair!".

God told abraham to put away his concubine. They werent married but they had a child together. In Ezra they were told to put away foreign wives. So God has insisted in the putting away of wives and women with whom men have had children with.

    yep.
i guess we just need to leave everything to God and let Him work things out.
if a Muslim convert in that situation is really one of His own, then He'll take care of him.

Mt 10:37 He that LOVETH father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that LOVETH son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Mt 10:38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. Mt 10:39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. Mt 10:40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.Mt 19:27 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? Mt 19:28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Mt 19:29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundred fold, and shall inherit everlasting life. Amen Thank you Lord amen.
