We didn't have a .300 hitter except for Billy last year and almost won the division. Had we not had a pair of dozen-game losing streaks during the season, playing .573 baseball like we did the other 138 games, we'd have won the Central by six games.

If was a fifth, we'd all be drunk!

Even 162-game seasons come down to a bad hop or an infield hit. [IMG]

"Had we not had a pair of dozen game losing streaks" is not a bad hop away from winning the division.

As I said, reverse the outcome of a dozen of those games (and we only lost two of those games by more than two runs) we win. Simple math. For the want of, say, 30 runs ...

Not a great deal to ask in a season when we scored 648 runs overall. How many ground ball infield hits or bad hops ya reckon that adds up to?

Chicago lost 30 games in which the pitching gave up 2 runs or less, last season. A couple of good bats, with that same pitching, and they're contenders again.

KC needs several bats, even though they get clutch late inning hits, the team average is too low to sustain a division win. Last year, the division was won by the best player in the dung heap.

Too early for me to make any picks, but have some thoughts.

AL East - Padre wins the award for biggest homer on the board.

AL Central - thisnumberisdisconnected gets 2nd place in the race for biggest homer on the board. :wavey: This is only because padre's been around longer and he picks the Yankees even when it's obvious they'll be bad, like last year.

AL West - Seattle's going to wind up being the place where Robinson Cano's career goes to die.

NL East - The Mets win as the MLB team I hate the most.

NL Central - I thought the window was closing in Cincinnati, then they fired Dusty Baker. Addition by subtraction.

NL West - This division is where the surprise team of the year will be. They may not win the division, mostly because of Dodger pitching, but the Padres will contend for the wild card.

Truth is, as much as I love the AL, Texas and Oakland are the only bright spots in a dark league.

I'd love to see Oakland win it all.

Uh ... really?? I'm not sure you've been paying attention. We added OF outfielder Norichika Aoki, whose got some excellent speed to add to the fastest team in the American League already. We practically stole Omar Infante for $30.25 million. Those two will bat 1-2 in a lineup that outscored the AL Central by an average 1.13 runs per game last year, the only team that outscored us being the Tigers. Those two will be good table-setters for Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas and Billy Butler, and Alex Gordon can drop from leadoff to the middle of the order where he belongs -- and will do far more damage.

Agreed on the speed, and Gordon. Infante has under produced, so we'll see.

Sounds like a good line up. If they can hit Tiger/Sox pitching consistently, and Moustakas has an on year.
I thought they were gonna hit the playoffs last year, for a while.

    Psssst. Chris Getz. Lolol

A-Rod is suspended for the year. Advantage Yankees.

    Ugh. You're right.

How many years have there been 3 divisions in the NL? After all these years, I still have this mental block that the Pirates are in the East.

    Division Champions
AL East - Tampa Bay Rays
AL Central - Kansas City Royals
    AL West - Oakland Athletics

    NL East - Washington Nationals
NL Central - St Louis Cardinals
NL West - Los Angeles Dodgers

    Wild Cards
AL - Boston Red Sox over Detroit Tigers
NL - Cincinnati Reds over Pittsburgh Pirates

    ALDS
    Tampa Bay over Oakland
    Boston over Kansas City

    NLDS
    Los Angeles over Cincinnati
    St Louis over Washington

    ALCS
    Tampa Bay over Boston

    NLCS

    Random predictions:

Philadelphia will be the surprise team, finishing 2nd in the AL East.

Boston will be plagued by injuries, won't make playoffs.

Robin Ventura will be fired by the White Sox, who will finish in last place again.

Injuries to Oakland and Atlanta's pitching staffs will be too much to overcome, will miss the playoffs.

Miami will not finish in last place in NL East, the Mets will.

The resurgence of Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton will propel the Angels to the division title.

The Royals losing Ervin Santana and picking up Jason Vargas is not an upgrade. Hochevar is out for the year, and Bruce Chen will revert to his normal ERA of 4.50 and won't have another year at 3.27. That pitching staff is relying a lot on Yordano Ventura, a very promising rookie. Compare KC's pitching staff to the Tigers and tell me why they are better.

Might as well throw my picks out there:

    Division Champions
AL East - Tampa Bay Devil Rays
    AL Central - Detroit Tigers
AL West - Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

    NL East - Washington Nationals
NL Central - St. Louis Cardinals
NL West - Los Angeles Dodgers

Wild Cards (winners of these one game playoffs depends on starting pitcher)
AL - New York Yankees over Cleveland Indians
NL - San Francisco Giants over Pittsburgh Pirates

    ALDS
    Detroit over New York Yankees
    Tampa Bay over LA Angels

    NLDS
    Los Angeles over SF Giants
    St Louis over Washington

    ALCS
    Tampa Bay over Detroit

    NLCS
    Los Angeles over St Louis

    World Series
Tampa Bay Devil Rays over Los Angeles Dodgers

It will be dubbed the Payroll Series.
