What % of your total income did you pay in Federal Tax?

Note: I am not asking for income $ amounts just %

I filed married - no additional dependents

My Federal Tax rate 4.25 %

What a lot of folks don't realize is the amount not taxed.

Married - no children about the first 20 grand is tax free
Married - 2 children about the first 27 grand is tax free

More than 25%. Then on top of that, I get to pay property taxes, sales taxes, gax taxes, etc., etc. - the list goes on and on ... and on ...

Because of our income, we do not pay federal tax. We do pay some state tax but where we get hit is property tax. Just our property tax is about 18% of our income.

If you take a look at your 1040 form from last year and divide line 60 by line 22, what percent do you get?

    19.34%

    Married, no dependents

Is this looking like "fair share"?

I see a mostly single digit answers.

BTW - Don't the answers given here make you wonder how it is possible that Warren Buffet's secretary supposedly pays 30%?
