As a parent, it grieves me when I have to punish my kids.

It also grieves me that people like Aaron and Jcjordan make light of it, enjoy it, and brag about it.

    Shame on them.

    One of two possibilities here:

One...Aaron is playing us. There are some subjects that aren't funny, and maturity would dictate that we understand such. If you want proof, come join me as I help a kid pick up the pieces from their father beating the crap out of them. Then you can have a good belly laugh, right?

Two...Aaron is serious. If so, I echo TinyTim's suggestion that we pray for his kids.

I think this whole post is getting out of hand. We have some folks getting facetious and others taking it serious.

By the way unless you keep close tabs on your kids, and this can be done without interference) you really do not know what they are up to.

I can remember ministers kids being the most polite and reserved in public when actually they were some of the wildest and perverse when the adults weren't looking.

I hear you, Aaron. It's really difficult to have an intelligent conversation with people when you're so much smarter and better than everybody else. I mean, why should you have to explain yourself to people who are beneath you, right?

Just to be clear: I don't think child abuse is funny at all. What I do think is funny is those who think that a good spanking is child abuse. Scripture is clear that a father who doesn't use the rod, hates his son. Maybe I shouldn't taken Aaron's statements so lightly, but I believe he was just trying to poke fun at those who compare spanking to all sorts of torture devices. I thought it was funny. Maybe I have a sick sense of humor.

    Thanks for the clarification.

I have no problem with spanking. I do have a problem with "clobbering," knocking around, etc. Previous posts on this thread take correction way past spanking. If it's a joke, it ain't funny. If it's not a joke, there's a problem in that house.

jcj, I understand the need for biblical correction. But I think in a public forum such as this, with people on here who have experienced the horrific perversion of "correction" that was nothing but abuse, I believe in being more sensitive, and not making light of it.

Not to mention...I stand by my post that punishment is not something enjoyable, or funny. It should grieve us when our children rebel to the point that a spanking is necessary. I feel confident you also share this view. I'm just hoping Aaron does as well.

I agree with you. I spank my children when necessary but as they get older, it becomes more and more unnecessary. The thought of punching a young man with two fists under the chin as "discipline" is so disgusting to me and completely reeks of uncontrollable anger and abuse. THAT is what I am 100% against.

Ya know, I think you're right. I think such kidding should probably be done in a less public manner. Please accept my apology for any participation in this.

ding!ding!ding!ding!ding!ding!ding We have a winner! Give that man a cigar!

More specifically, I was mocking those in this thread who insisted on thinking that I take pleasure in administrating corporeal punishment and am bereft of tenderness when dealing with my children. (That's only when dealing with my wife.) I owe them no apology or clarification, and none will be rendered.

What of rebellious children who were stoned under Moses? I was making a contrast between what men think is cruel, and what God stated was just. If knuckleheads want to read anymore into it than that, that's their problem. I might as well have a little fun with it.
