Had you drifted in and shouted JEFF GORDON RULES!; now that would be offensive. [IMG] All I know is that if I drove 500 miles on a Sunday afternoon I would have:
    </font>
    • blisters on my backside.</font>
    • numb legs.</font>
    • fifteen empty coffee cups on the floor of the truck.</font>
    • a frequent visitors pass at the Flying J rest facilities (see 15 coffees above)</font>
    • a desire to stay off the road for a month.</font>
That's at 65 mph. Kick that up to 190 mph and 42 other drivers trying to occupy the same space you have....

Sure it doesn't have a stick or ball, but baseball doesn't have 20 car pileups either.

Lots of folks don't consider racing a sport. It's really an academic question, since there is nothing inherently good or bad about being/not being a sport.

If you look at the self-centered overblown egomaniacs who populate the NFL and NBA, this is evident.

This is one of the reasons I like stock car racing...the folks involved are mostly pretty nice, regular people.

A deacon in the church told us one time that no true christian could have Earnhardt Jr. as a favorite since he was sponsored by a beer company. Same with any other driver sponsored by beer/alcohol.

Pretty strict for someone only 38 years old!!!

Can women post here? (heh) I love NASCAR and yeah, admonishing people to not like Jr. because of his Bud connection is kind of harsh. I guess he wouldn't approve of me liking Tony Stewart with his temper and all. Bristol this weekend! I'm hoping for good things for Tony and a better race for Bobby Labonte.

King Richard wouldn't let NASCAR put the Busch Pole Award on his car years ago. They sent Andretti to the back of the field for the start. Seems Mama Petty was a temperence gal and Richard wouldn't do anything to upset Mama. Didn't have any trouble wth his 7 Winston Cups and the checks that went along with them.

joymcc, girls and racin' go together like two coats of paint. The only thing better than Spring Bristol is Fall Bristol under the lights!

David Smith is a Christian who used to work for Richard Childress, and worked for Richard almost from the beginning of RCR. David told Richard that if RCR ever took on alcohol sponsorship, he would leave the organization, and that's exactly what he did.

Joymcc, I'm afraid that until Joe Gibbs gets the football coaching out of his blood, and gets back to running his racing teams, the #20 and #18 are going to continue to languish in the back of the pack.

I don't know when Tony's contract is up, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him driving a different car when it is. The current situation at JGR has to be extremely frustrating to him.

Have you checked the point standings lately? Tony Stewart is currently #7. He is having a pretty good year so far! Now Bobby Labonte has really struggled.

I agree about Joe Gibbs and the football thing. Tony, Bobby and the crews have struggled with the adjustment. Not to mention the fact that the Redskins have struggled too. Bobby got caught up in two early accidents in the last two races and he's in real trouble with his own points and owner points. I'm hoping for better things for him this weekend so he can get back on track. Interesting thought that Tony might evenually leave JGR. Personally I hope he stays because he's working with people who are interested in his soul as well as his racing.

Honestly, I am not sure that Joe Gibb's presence would really help. NASCAR is quickly becoming a two-team show: Roush vs. Hendrick. DEI, RCR, and Gibbs teams are falling off the pace compared to those two. Roush has consolidated almost all of the Ford teams under his banner and Hendrick has the dominate Chevys. The Dodge teams have yet to show that they can compete consistently, though Evernham teams and Penske teams have shown flashes of competitiveness.
