The last thread on NASCAR was in its 21st page - time to start a new one.

Last evening's race - I thought I'd get to see it all - it was a Saturday night race, you know - but alas - I took three young people to a skate.

I did listen to much of the race on the radio - but it's just not the same as watching it. I thought I might get home in time to see the last few laps - but the race ended when I was still five miles from home.

I dozed on and off watching but it was good to see Little E win it. I'm also glad Cheater Knauss and crew didn't win this time. [IMG] I still can't believe he won Taledega.

Glad to see somebody else has gotten on-board the Cheater Knauss name. [IMG]

Richmond is usually a pretty good race and Saturday didn't disappoint. I'm not sure what Todd Berrier was thinking by not bringing Harvick in for tires, but it's not like Harvick could get back around them when everybody had fresh tires.

We can officially put the Dale Jr back in the cast of usual characters. Those guys are starting to bring cars that are good right off the truck and Tony Jr. is one of the best at making the right adjustments during a race. I don't know that the #8 team is on par with the #20 and #48 yet, but they're getting there.

ccr, I agree the #8 is on his way.

Over the last couple weeks we have heard Tony Stewart and Dale Jr take responsibility for things that happened on the track. We still haven't heard from Scott on this, I didn't think this happened [IMG]

Been watching Nascar stuff on the Speed channel. They interviewed David Pearson. What a class act!

He is even still doing some dirt track racing. Been in the car 14 times and has 14 wins. Not too shabby.

Looking forward to a great race at Darlington tonight!

The Silver Fox is considered by many to be the best driver ever. Probably the only reason he isn't the clear-cut choice is that so many more saw Earnhardt race that didn't see Pearson.

I was glad to see Biffle win, mostly because it meant Gordon didn't.

What's up with Darrell Waltrip rooting for a particular driver at the end of the race? Aren't the announcers supposed to stay objective? It was annoying both last week and this week.

Solid night for Dale Jr and Ton Stewart fought back for a decent finish.

I didn't care for DW rooting for drivers either. They should be objective.

So true, I'm one of them that think David is the best I've ever seen, but I guess that is telling my age.

Biffle and Gordon running one-two at Darlington is fitting. I think they are the two best drivers on the track right now. If Gordon had caught Biffle, that would have been quite a finish. However, Biffle's crew made a great move in having him pit early. No caution flew and he wound up with a huge lead...and a win.

How can you say this? Have you seen the standings for this year? The 2 best drivers on the track rignt how this year are Jimmie Johnson and Tony Stewart. Overall, I would say it is Stewart and Gordon.

I think that Darlington is perhaps the toughest test of driving skill on the circuit. It demands a driver who can get the best out of his car when it is not handling perfectly; because even the best car at Darlington is not handling perfectly most of the night. The track also rewards a driver who can concentrate and who has patience.

Obviously Biffle and Gordon have had their problems this year, and you are right that Johnson has been a big winner this year and Stewart has been very consistent. Both are a threat week in and week out.

But at Darlington where driver skill counts more than it counts at most other tracks, Biffle was dominant and Gordon was the driver who took a pretty bad car and successfully adjusted it to where it was the fastest car at the end of the night. I think they are the top two drivers in NASCAR at the moment.

No doubt Darlington is a tough test for the drivers. However, I do not think you can judge the top 2 drivers in the sport today based on one race at one track.

The 2 best drivers in the series right now are Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon.

I like Biffle. I think he is a top driver and will eventually win a championship. I just don't think you can call him one of the top 2 drivers right now.

Biffle finished second in the championship race last year. Wouldn't that also be an argument that he is one of the top two? Biffle could very well be having a dominating season this year save for some unfortunate circumstances (A.K.A. know in NASCAR parlance as "bad luck"). In fact, his domination may have just begun.

If your two picks are Stewart and Gordon, I wonder what your criteria is. How could you pick Gordon over Jimmie Johnson as one of the top two?

On another topic, I was glad to see Kurt Busch get out of the way for Greg Biffle late in the Darlington race. I was also glad that Biffle acknowledged Busch's courtesy. Hopefully, Busch has learned some lessons and is seeking to mend fences with other drivers.

Top 2 drivers this year: Johnson & Stewart

Top 2 drivers over all in the series: Stewart & Gordon

Biffle just isn't there yet. Just because he finished 2nd last year does not mean is the 2nd best driver in the sport right now. Does that mean that the driver (whom I don't even remember) that finished 3rd is the 3rd best driver in the sport?

Stewart and Gordon are the top 2 drivers based on championship, wins, winning %, and their ability to win on every type of track in the series.

Darlington is probably the toughest track on the circuit, no doubt. But, I don't think it should lead us to call a particular driver the best just because they win at Darlington. Jimmie Johnson swept both races in 2004, but I don't think anybody thinks he's 1 of the 2 best drivers on the circuit because of it.

I think Biffle goes in the list of Top 5 drivers right now, but I wouldn't put him ahead of Gordon or Stewart.
