Showing more concern for Barack Obama’s popularity than for the national security implications of the latest leaks in the NSA scandal, NBC’s Andrea Mitchell was nearly inconsolable as she lamented over the damage done to her president:

“When he was a candidate, Barack Obama was a rock star in Europe. That was then, this is now.”

Moments later, the bereft Mitchell continued to worry:

“How did the man who won the Nobel Peace Prize just months into his presidency become the subject of Europe’s scorn?”

Okay, I know the suspense is killing you. So, whom did Ms. Mitchell blame for Europe’s scorn of the rock star? (Hint: It wasn’t George Bush – this time.) Edward Snowden. Yeah, Edward Snowden. Not the unprecedented surveillance of innocent Americans and most of the world in and of itself, mind you, but the leaks that exposed the surveillance.

“The White House can thank NSA leaker Edward Snowden, whose latest revelations have forced President Obama to apologize to France’s President Hollande, Germany’s Chancellor Merkel, current and former leaders in Mexico, and Brazil’s President Rousseff – who even cancelled a state visit to Washington, she was so angry.”

In effect, what Andrea is saying is this: How could Snowden not realize that the level of American surveillance of Europe (and the rest of the world) would tick them off if they ever found out about it? Why could he not help Obama continue to cover it up? Simplistic? A bit. Reality? Of course.

This woman has long been unhinged. Now, I see, see has become a certifiable lunatic.
