God denied paul the opportunity to share to us what he saw and experienced though, and Jesus gave to us ALL that God intended for us to known on these issues this side of death, and the Bible is fully ALL that God has to say to us now on any subject, so why need any additional "revelation" from the beyond?

Sure, ignore the teaching of the Geneva Bible, and flee to some dictionary to quibble.

    Really?

Are you now "beset round with raging enemies"?

Are you now "haled unto a cruel and horrible kind of death"

Is there now "nothing but death before [your] eyes"?

[All from John Calvin's commentary on verse 55]

If he were in the midst of being stoned and he was unconscious and then revived enough to tell of this then yes, that would be a NDE.

I don't really mind what the commentaries or Geneva say - but what they say are not inspired. Bottom line is that he was preaching to a crowd, rebuking them. He saw Jesus at the right hand of God while he was in his full faculties and in full health. They then took him out of the town and stoned him.

Just read the Bible itself, not the Geneva commentary, not Calvin's commentary. Stephen had a vision of Heaven because he was filled with the Holy Spirit, not because of a NDE.

55 But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God, 56 and said, “Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!”

Then they picked him up and carried him outside of town and killed him.

57 Then they cried out with a loud voice, stopped their ears, and ran at him with one accord; 58 and they cast him out of the city and stoned him.

    It's not complicated.

Yeah, too bad you all weren't in Geneva to set Calvin et al. straight.

Irrelevant. The Bible tells us all we need to know.

Yes. . .that Stephen's death was near when he saw into heaven.

Weird how these can read the same Bible and not minimize Stephen's dire situation.

Here's another selection from the Southern Baptist Journal of Theology from earlier this year:

No, if you read the Bible you can see that Stephen had the vision of Heaven, then he was taken outside the city and THEN stoned to death.

55 But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56 “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”57 At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, 58 dragged him out of the city and began to stone him.

I think that if we look at the state of the Church today, and if we look at the state of the world, we will probably come to the conclusion that the last thing the Church needs is another book based on superstition and speculation. Actually, I’d go so far as to say the last thing the Church needs is another book.

When men built seminaries  (that means..."just kidding")

I am astounded at the success companies have with "study guides." While I understand the need for commentary, many of the materials out there are awful. Now someone is contemplating writing a (another) book, based on the Bible, about near-death experiences.

You know what....I think I may start researching for my UFO book based on Ezekiel.

I am thinking about writing a book about UFO's and alien abduction based on Scripture. I may call it "Wheel in the Sky."

(The only serious note in my previous post was the abundance of shallow study guides and the lack of a need for more books on anti-biblical speculation).
