I think it would be great to have a section on BB where you could debate to your hearts content without having a moderator locking it down because he ran out of argument or didn't agree with something that was said! [IMG]

    Come on Shilo

When did blackbird ever run out of an argument? I have never seen him be quiet about anything.

Perhaps you could start your own board where all the arrogance and bashing you wanted would be allowed?

Although I have seen moderators close a thread that seemed like it was "just getting started", I have also seen moderators move a thread to allow to to continue further.

Most of the time, by the time the thread is closed, both sides of the debate have well made up their minds and having the thread stay open longer won't help, in fact, it seems like it would hurt more than help.

I think it's just being balanced that is why this rule/feature is here.

Also, if you feel the need to continue a thread, you could always start another one.

Although that brings me to a complaint of this BB, but it's one to deal with because I don't think it could ever be fully managed.

I feel like on some subjects, we have WAY too many threads going, and that the moderators should do a better job at closing/combining threads. An example of this now is the End of Spear movie.

Having so many threads open of the same topic makes it hard for anyone to follow, it causes people to cross post.

That's my only complaint, and even it's a small one that because of the number of people, I don't think can be fully managed correctly. With 13,000+ members topics are bound to be started twice.

 This is exactly what I am talking about. If i would post something like this about somebody I would get the thread locked down. Hey you SB preacher you should be thankful I am so nice [IMG] I mention anything about your sorry SBC mess. [IMG]

I think the moderators do a great job around here. They have an awful job. Their job is like a referee at a high school basketball game. No one is going to please everyone and someone is always upset when you make a call against their team.

I think the role of Moderator is important.
However There should be guidelines and accountability to the moderators.

Moderators are 100% accountable to the administration and the Webmaster.

==I have, since 1996 or so, been a posting member on at least four different message boards. BaptistBoard makes about five. Usually I get along well with administrators (etc) and don't run into any problems. The last board I was at, however, I had to leave because of a disagreement between myself and one administrator. She did not like my position so she attempted to mute my voice. So I left.

If someone does not like how a church, club, or messageboard is being administered they probably need to find another church, club, or messageboard. If there can only be problems, divisions, and disputes it is better to leave.

Having said that messageboards exist for the purpose of discussion and debate. Those are good things. However there is a difference between a hearty, healthy, maybe lengthy debate and a argument. We have to know how to tell the difference. The first is good, the later is not. If we find ourselves in an argument with someone we need to back away. That may mean leaving the specific messageboard, church, or club for a period of time. Or maybe finding another place and not returning to the old.

Just a general word of advice.

    In Christ,
    Martin. [IMG]

Not that I agree with Shiloh, but I am not sure of C4K's statement either.

I have had an issue with a moderator and have used the "report post" link without a reply.

It doesn't bother me that much as I now know how to take this person, and how openminded/closedminded they are, so I take their posts in strive, but I don't think the accountablity that you think is there is at all times.

Again, I don't agree with the orginal topic of this post, AND I don't have a problem now with a moderator, but when I did, nothing was ever said or done.

No, it's not an awful job. :D
There are suprisingly FEW rules on the BB.
If you don't agree with a moderator, go to an admin. If the admin doesn't help, go to Webmaster.

Simply check your behavior against the rules and see if what happened was fair or unfair. If it TRULY wasn't fair, go up the chain and appeal your case. But...Webmaster gets to read his email approximately once a millenium, (ok ok, a slight exaggeration) so you better have a solid presentation of the facts ma'am, just the facts!

Moderators and Administrator and the Webmaster are doing a great job.

Guys, you gotta remember, there is a huge responsibility that they have each and every day. They have to address issues between the rest of us prayerfully and carefully so as not to make a move that would destroy their testimony.

I commend the Moderators and Administrators and the Webmaster and pray for them daily.

And hey, if people who were supposed to be Christians would start acting like Christians instead of resorting to childish name calling and insulting, threads would stay open much longer. C'mon, let's work with the Moderators and the Administrators and Webmaster.

Better yet, let's do that which pleases the Lord.

I am a mod (well, supermod now) on a computer forum. The crowd there is pretty young (mid to upper teens make up the majority). Believe me, you want and need your mods.

The mods here on the BB do a bang-up job of keeping the peace... as well as making sure we members remain "Christian" toward one another.

They also do a great job pruning inappropriate content lobbed in by the occasional non-Christian (and Christian on occassion). Not to mention the spam that flows through all the forum boards on the interent...

Kudos to the mods and admins of the BB. You make this a great place to visit... and stay.

    In Christ,
    Trotter

There is rarely a reply to anyone about any posts. It does not mean they have not looked into it, and we don't know that they didn't warn the other person in pm, or decide there were no rules broken. you pass judgement without knowing all the details needed.
